8800 Ultra

Have to agree with above....i will also be keeping my Ultra until a decent performance boost can be had from changing....they do clock much better than the 8800GTX and have 0.8ns Samsung memory.

8800Ultra is a good card, 8800GTX is a good card, 8800Ultra is an 8800GTX with faster core and memory, proberbly got a voltage bump to allow for higher clocks or maybe some more electrics to allow for higher stable clock. They should have just got rid of GTX's and slapped the Ultras right in their spot and marketed it as an 8800GTXX or something, the Ultras were too expensive but if their around for around £200 now then the they are worth it.

Just did a google search/price comparison, cheapest I found was £326!

Pfffttt...

Shame, if there were still some floating about for a cheaper price I'd seriously consider getting one.

Yea but an ultra is better coz you pay like £100 extra for about 90mhz on the core and about 300+ on the memory.

Just buy the XFX 8800 GTX and clock it to Ultra speeds, then there you go, you have an 8800 Ultra, just displays its name as a GTX. :p

True, but there was also this point...

Its the guarantee of a quicker card, with a warranty:)

Crazy really, you expect an EOL product to do DOWN in price not UP!

Why?

GTX all the way or just buy a pre overclocked version like my EVGA GTX KO.

Just two quick questions:

1) I have a BFG 8800 as per the sig, would the 9800GX2 perform the same then in some tests? And therefore not a worthy upgrade?

2) Does EOL mean end of line lol??

1) Wait for the new ATI or Nvidia Card. Only game that will benifit really is Crysis. Oh and 3D Mark 06. All other games run fine with your GTX. I play Crysis at 1920x1200 on high except shadows and post on medium and it plays better than the 512 GTS ( 820/2300 ).

2) Yes it does and the GX2 will be EOL in a couple of months,

Agreed, but it would have to be an even better deal if I were to shift from the GT I have now:)

I guess I'm like everyone else, sick of waiting for new tech, I just want a card that will double the current cards, that will do me for a couple of years;)

EOL either means end of line or end of life, no idea which:D

EDIT: that was meant to also include a quote but what the hell.

1) The 9800 GX2 would perform slower than your GTX in some games, as games that are not SLi supported will only use one of its cores, so they will run in single card mode, meaning the GX2 will run as a single GTS downclocked to GT speeds.

2) EOL is End Of Life.

I doubt many GTX's get to 700+ on the core and 2300+ memory tho! Yeah it is expensive tho but bargains can be had, I picked mine up for 270quid 4 months ago brand new. ;)

Yep

Now got mine at 647/1673/2070 so the core & particularly the shader are higher than stock Ultra, only the memory thats limited on mine but still 99+Mb/sec bandwidth for plenty of AA/AF at 1920x1200 ;)

The same could be said with any Ultra owner simply doing what you have an OC'ing and getting at least 685mhz on the Core.

BTW my card is 655mhz Core out the box, not 612mhz.

The more Core mhz and Shader mhz you have the more Memory mhz would help to balance it out.

2400mhz DDR Memory is 115.GB/Sec Bandwidth (It is not Mb/Sec as thats for Internet Speed/Modems)

So you will always get that input from others, "ohh buy a GTX and OC it to an Ultra", then Ultra owners simply OC to a level you cannot reach (without serious mods/cooling).

My XFX Ultra XXX is 685 Core - 1694 Shader and 2300Mhz memory at stock :D
I think all Ultra's would reach that without issue.
That's why i don't have a newer card !
