8800 vs ati image quality

Looks like different gamma settings. It's supposed to be dark, the GX2 is miles out.

It's in settings.cfg default gamma is 1.0. The game looks a lighter because my screen brightness is up a bit.

"GammaB" "1.000000"
"GammaG" "1.000000"
"GammaR" "1.000000"

I've had an x1900xtx, GX2 and now the 8800. I think IQ is better, but the main thing, trying to be objective is that it just feels very, fluid or smooth. Its more than just frame rates.

Higher res, gamma 1.03 so you can see more.

thanks to fornowagain 8800 looks wiked , so now we have visual proof that nvidia has taken visual crown now!

Yep, I agree with that.

The Radeon looks pretty damn good, but the detail on the floor with the 8800 is very impressive indeed.

Thought I would post mine as mines looking very different to the 7950...

I gotta ask, what is wrong with the GX2?

It just looks... strange. Far too bright, can't someone adjust the gamma? :D

as I said - looks fine on my display but looks washed out in screenshots...

I could never get into FEAR i hate the same corridors and rubbish like that never seems to stop.

This any better???

pic3

Personally tho I don't really call resized screenshots valid for comparisson as at the very least they will have some smoothing done when resized...

EDIT: re-uploaded it with no smoothing on the resize - tho that makes some stuff look more jagged than the original res image...

EDIT2: Made it a link to original image as the resized ones just either were too sharp or too blurry... reuploaded another shot with the gamma as close to yours as I can make it.

 why not mate?

In terms of refreshing the screen, CRTs are better. But the difference is minimal now days.

It used to be the case, That LCD's displayed ghosting, shadowing and could generally make you feel sick when playing games.

I don't think it's very common anymore, Especially with 8ms response rates.

Although it would look worse on some LCD's out there, than CRTs.

@markyb, Doh, For some reason, I seemed to only see half your post :D

But its been different for a hell of a long time.

It may look worse but different makes use different methods of displaying it. It isnt CRT is better than LCD it's other factors.
