8800 vs ati image quality

It used to be the case, That LCD's displayed ghosting, shadowing and could generally make you feel sick when playing games.

I don't think it's very common anymore, Especially with 8ms response rates.

Although it would look worse on some LCD's out there, than CRTs.

@markyB, Doh, For some reason, I seemed to only see half your post :D

Depends a lot on the display, the game you are playing and how fast your own reaction/response times are...

The first TFT I bought for gaming was a samsung 19" TFT that is/was very well regarded - despite being 8ms I could NOT reccomend it for gaming, anything more than pedestrian movement meant that you constantly had to wait a split second for the view to refocus as the slight blurr went away... I replaced that with a 5ms widescreen and its much better, fine for mmos, etc. and I see no ghosting in games like DOD:S when I enable vsync, however its still horrendous for quake 3... for hardcore gaming you still need a CRT IMO.

FEAR is not a good game to compare, i'll supply you with an example SS I took on my setup for the screenshot thread.

2x 8800GTX SLI 2560x1600 8xCSAA, HDR, 16xAF, Parallax textures, 4096 texture packs and LOD, uGrid set to 9

What size screen do you run on??

30" Dell 3007.

That is a NICE piece of kit! I think a bigger monitor is where i'm going to go next, I have an X800 at the moment, So its not exactly spectacular, But if i was to go out and buy an 8800GTX and run it through my current 15" setup, I'd feel like i was burning my money, lol. I'd rather run games at lower resolution on a 30"(ish) TFT on a x800 and then get myself an Uber DX10 card later. But HELL, Those screenshots have gave me somewhere to aim atleast :D

8800 GTX 16x AF - Defalt Settings

Way better AF on the 8800, even ATI's "high quality" AF setting is not as good as an 8800's on DEFALT.

>> see here

Also you n00bs cant compare image quality by posting resized jpeg pics on here, that dont even have the same settings/res. lol.... !!

They have to be the same res, no compression, exact same settings, exact same location in the game etc....

Can clearly see the whites/blacks and colours razer crisp and sharper with the 8800 shots.

Id say those FEAR shots by Rippling show a good difference the lighting much better on the 8800, I actually prefer Nvidias colourful picture, ATIs is always dull and lfe less I feel...

If ATI are currently redesigning there R600 card and making a better cooler and making it shorter then it makes me wonder ! maybe they may not even make it for Vistas release.... Surprised there R600 was actually longer then the 8800GTX even ;) http://www.vr-zone.com/?i=4293

Prolly like myself... average/good job... but living with parents (moved back :| ), low rent, low outgoing = plenty to spend on new hardware... has its advantages...

iceman what do you do for living to have that much cash ? (not asking your salary, just interested in what sort of career your in)

He is a professional bank robber :D:p

Ice,

Does oblivion look good at 19x12 on a 30"? would have thought scaling etc might cause a problem.

I know that running anything less than 19x12 on this 17" just ruins the game.:(

I really cant notice any difference between the X1900XT and 8800GTX screenshots, is it just me?

I know the 8800GTX is much much faster than the X1900 and it is DX10, but I think I will stick with my X1900XT for a while longer. I would buy a 8800 but the price is too hogh for me at the mo. :(

i cant really see a difference either , but I guess when youve just splashed 400 plus on a card then your going to convince yourself.

It doesn't matter what you see, because the 8800GTX can draw a multi-coloured circle so much better than an X1950!!!

You can sleep well tonight safe in the knowledge that should you come across any multi-coloured circles in future games, they will be drawn with perfect precision.
