As you can see from my sig I have an X1900XT and a slightly overclocked AMD64 3500. Taking into account I game at 1024 x 1280 I expect my present setup is more than adequate.

Just wanted to ask whether I would see any meaningful benefit from an upgrade to an 8800. I expect not, but would would appreciate some confirmation. Thanks

It would probably make quite a difference, but perhaps not '£500' worth of difference if you know what I mean. If you have £500 to spend, then a conroe CPU, conroe motherboard and new RAM would result in a bigger performance jump. You could even get high spec versions of those if you sold your current CPU/RAM/Mobo

Well, your fps would go up, and it will last longer before you need to upgrade. But you probably(?) don't need to yet, so that might not be an issue for you. What fps do you get in your most demanding games?

If it was me, I'd wait to get one later on when the price has dropped. Ask yourself, is the benefit you'll get in the time between now (high price) and discounted price (maybe, I don't know, 5 months?) woth the price premium?

I'm rambling now, sorry.

I'd say wait, benefits won't be worth the cost. I mean, your fps might even double, but if your X1800 at 1024x768 is pumping out 60fps at max detail, AA/AF, what more do you want?

Thanks guys. My X1900XT screams through everything at the mo. I'll probably build a conroe rig next year. Like everyone else I've got a sneaky eye on Crysis, so I want to ensure I can run it a decent level.
Earlier indications are that my present rig should perform nicely, although high resolutions may be a no go.

Or, if the money really is burning a hole in your pocket, get a lovely high res widescreen monitor now, then when the 8800 comes down in price, buy it and it will give you a noticeable boost/good value for money.

Being a tight Scotsman, my entire PC kit buying is always down to VFM!

Ive got a fairly similar system apart from I have a 7800GT...not sure about the performance between ** X1900XT and mine, but im getting a 8800GTX for christmas. Do you think i would see more of a boost or would i be better off getting an 8800GTS instead and maybe upgrading my CPU or RAM?

Not worth the upgrade considering resolution playing at & the rest of your PC.

X1900XT is far better than a 7800GT.
I think you would be better off getting the 8800GTS & a dual core CPU & upgrading to a total of 2 gigs of ram..
