8800GT 112PipeLines or 9600GT 64 streams

I play 1024 x 768, because I have at present a AGP 6800GT.
I am building a new rig to run Vista on. Hopefully a Q6600 CPU with 4Gb of DDR2 PC2 6400 RAM

the 8800GT is the better card, its just the price and superior SLI performance of the 9600GT that has meant people have started comparing them.

That and the fact that, in certain situations, the 9600 GT performs very similarly to an 8800 GT. Those are however quite specific situations, though, the 8800 GT is still the better card all around.

This would be a non issue if it wasnt for the fact you can get a 9600GT for £30 less than a 8800. A card that performs not far off an 8800GT is one thing, but a card that performs not far off the 8800GT for only 70% the price is another.

XFX Warranty = FAIL!

Avoid completely!

Basically, the 9600GT, 8800GT and (i think) 8800GTS are all pretty much the same cards between manufacturers (i.e. an XFX 8800GT is the same as an OcUK 8800GT) so go for the cheapest one you can find with a warranty you are happy with.

And even under the stock cooler you can get some decent clocks from the 8800GT (if you dont mind a bit of noise). My BFG does 700/1000 easy.

I would suggest you to go for POV 8800gts 512mb on this week offer, simply for 2 reasons ist one it runs a lot cooler to gt and second fan runs very quite as well although there is not big difference in performance.
