i have also come across this review between the 256mb, 512mb and 1024mb versions makes quite interesting reading.

It appears as though the extra memory does make a difference in some games mainly the directx10 ones. Theres a big difference in a couple of them at higher resolutions.
 
From the review above, only 2 games (I've never heard of PT Boats?) had a noticeable difference going from 512MB to 1GB. It seems a bit pointless for now, unless they ship them with higher mem clock speed.
