8800GT @ 1x?!! Help!

Just installed an inno 3d 8800GT and ran the Crysis bench. I got 16fps, so I was naturally horrified

I opened GPU Z to see what the hell was going on and I find this...

"@ x1"?

wut?

Ok so my mobo definitely supports x16 and I have the latest drivers installed. I didn't install what came with it, went straight to the latest off nvidia's site.

Any ideas what the problem could be?

nope but mine runs at x2 when i have two pci-e x16 so answers on a postcard please!

My P5B-deluxe does that if the NB voltage is at 1.5V or higher. Might not be the case in G33 chipset but worth trying. Also try setting PCI-E bus to 105Mhz that's what I have mine at.

Ok so in CPU Z it says x16 supported but it's only running at x1.

well i have the same card, inno3D in a DFI sli-d which states two x16 and its always ran at 2(might have been x4, cant rememerber) and i couldnt find a way to sort it

I’ve not seen x1 before it’s usually x4, maybe try a bios flash? Is the card in the primary slot?

Check a GPU benchmark like 3DMARK06 and post the score, it could actually be running at 16 but not CPUZ –GPUZ may not be recognising this.

it should be x16, same when i had my p5b, nbv of more than 1.5v and that would happen.

check the BIOS

Just checked - my 8800GTS 320mb is @ x16 - I think should be x16 =\

Definitely not the NB voltage, it's under 1.5.

Interestingly, looking around online I found this...

Some dude with an Asus board had to fiddle with jumpers to get his speed upto maximum but my MSI manual mentions nothing at all like that.

Oh yeah and I've also tried doing some more benchmarks and I get horrible scores. Got around 4000 odd in 3dmark06.

is your psu supplying enough power to the card and its not thinking its underpowered and clocking itself back ?

I have a Hiper 530watt PSU with a 6 pin going from it to the card with no converters. Everything should be fine power wise.

can you install the card on another pc or a friend / family members and see what CPU Z comes up with on theres?

Check your chipset drivers as well, make sure they are up to date. What graphics card did you have before the 8800GT? Any problems with that?

Hmm, a thought.

Notice how it says "PCI-E 2.0 x 16 @ x 1"?

If I fixed it, would it say "PCI-E x16 @ x16" or "PCI-E 2.0 x 16 @ x 16".

Of course, my mobo isn't 2.0 but the card should be backwards compatible anyway.

Maybe the problem does lie in a 2.0 incompatibility glitch after all. The card or mobo might not be running it in PCI-E 1.0a and so reducing it to 2.0 x1. Just a theory.

Anybody here got a 2.0 card in a non-2.0 mobo, what does it say in GPU-Z for you?

if it says 2.0 @ x16 then it's not that I guess.

had this on a friends recent upgrade. fixed it by changing the pcie bus speed to 101mhz from 100 mhz in the bios.....

Got a G92 8800gts here in a dfi ultra and its showing as "PCI-E 2.0 x16@x16" in gpu-z.

That's not it. I only have 1 PCI-E slot anyway.

When did it start happening? Was it running at 16x then suddenly switched to 1x for unknown reason or was it because your oc settings? Have you tried running stock?
