Sorry for the repeat post, stuck this on gen hardware in case someone sees it first, need an answer asap!

Can someone please help me, I've taken the stock cooler off my 8800gt (EVGA) the S1 doesn't seem to make good contact with the gpu (I tried just sitting them together) is it reliant on the thermal paste to make the contact? do the sides of the bracket fit through the pcb? They sit on top for mine...!

Can anyone help, I'm a bit desperate here. Also I'm gonna have a 120mm fan pointing right at it, so I thought it'd be better to leave out the ramsinks, any input on this? Do you think I'd be better off putting ramsinks on and getting additional ones for the voltage regulators, or should it be fine naked?

Screw it all together, see what the contact is like with the stock thermal goop, if it looks good then clean it all off and apply a decent paste (AS5, MX-1, whatever is your poison)

With re: to ramsinks etc, i absolutely would not run this card "naked". I know that AC say the voltage regs dont need cooling, but those things are just so small and they get so hot :\ Im going out to buy some little heatsinks tommorrow and some decent thermal tape before I attempt to install my S1.

I would not run 1.8Ghz DDR3 BGA RAM modules with no method of heat transfer away from their surface, absolutely not.

I mean i suppose it might all be stable, but honestly it just doesnt seem like a good idea to me.

EDIT: Also, no they dont fit through the PCB, they look like they should, but they dont. Once the screws are all tightened up, I reckon you'll see a good imprint in the paste layer.
