8800GT BIOS question...

I'm correct that the BIOS/FIRMWARE on an 8800 series card does NOT determine the hardware thats reported to GPUZ and the likes? I've bought another 8800GT and noticed it was running slower than expected - looking at it in GPUZ shows 12 rops, 96 streaming processors, 384Mb 192bit RAM - basically an 8800GS but someones taken the time to reflash it with an 8800GT firmware - I've already sent a message to the shop but I want to make double sure its not a simple manufacturing error that can solved by flashing with the correct GT BIOS?

id take it back to the shop or send it back saying that it has been flashed etc . they should give you a refund or replace it as its not what you ordered. though i would first check out some other programs like 3dmark06 and test it and compare with what others may have with a 8800gt/gs.

Thats basically what I'm doing - just wanting to make double certain that its not something that could be solved with a simple BIOS flash as its gonna mean waiting a week or more now before I get the correct working card.

The card is physically the same as the 8800GS sold by the manufacturer - not the 8800GT and GPUZ, rivatuner, etc. show the hardware spec as an 8800GS even tho the descriptor shows 8800GT. Its also running slower than the other 8800GTs I have.

Bit too late to do that now :( and I can't take the risk of being out of pocket... and ocuk is doing sat delivery at weekday prices just today :( just to add insult to injury heh...

If anyone can help... the card visually looks like what is being sold as the TOP edition here:

well its a link to a "competitor" even if they are foreign google search asus 08G17015490 and you'll find it...

and the part number matches that... (I didn't buy a TOP edition)

however this is what I get with the card installed:

Still going through the RMA process just trying to make sure I'm on the right ground.
