8800GT Blackout issue

I'm asking about this on behalf of a friend, who's brand new 8800GT has started blacking out on occasion, the screen goes black but sound and everything but the graphics remain. Only way to get out of it is to hit the power button.

From having a quick look around I can't find any obvious causes, having one myself I've had no issues with it.

He's tried another PSU, and the latest drivers with no luck - the temperatures are also quite low, idling <50.

Has this been a big issue for anyone else and if so is there a solution to it?
