lo,

Well bought my 8800GT OC inno3d (650mhz) in November. Fortunately given up gaming since Xmas and feel better for it. Now use my computer as a file server for my media centre.

As this computer is on during the night and while watching films it needs to be truly silent. So what 8800GT cooler do you recommend?

Obviously the Arctic Cooling Accelero S1 Rev. 2 VGA Cooler is a silent solution, but has been out of stock at OCUK for months.

I'm also looking at the Zalman VF900-CU Quiet Copper VGA Cooler but am not sure if this is going to be silent or even if it fits the 8800GT?

Are there any others I need to consider?

Thanks for reading

The employees at OC UK must have handed me a imaginary Accelero S1 last week then! I'm using the S1 with the 8800GT. Isn't the 8800GT a bit much for a 24/7 PC (power consumption)

I've got two of the Zalman VF-900CU's on my 8800GTs. They are very very quiet when you turn the fan control down to minimum. Totally inaudible in my system. All that can be heard are the case fans, which are all Noctua or Silenx.

I apologies I don't check stock levels on pc shops every day, maybe once a month & each time I have looked since xmas they have been out of stock.

you have an 8800GT in a file server!?!?!?!?!

Sell it, buy a basic 8400 or 3450 with passive cooler, and have £100 profit!

Take it out and fit a cheap PCI-E card? I would assume the GT uses a fair bit of power even in 2D mode? It has HD acceleration, so could be used in my HTPC later on but I think I'll just get lower model instead.

8800gt and Zalman (VF900-CU) Active VGA Cooler

will it fit?

cba to sell it, and if I wanna play the odd game like world in conflict or farcry 2 when its out, I still have that option.

The buy a NAS to do your file serving!!

you basically wanting to combine a file server with a high end gaming rig.....

Take the card out and replace with a cheapo one. If you want to play games you can always just stick it in!

^^ seems like the best option if you don't play games atm. Also will lower your power consumption

have some fun and build yourself a cheap low power file server

im going to (eventually) turn my 200w onboard graphics iDEQ SFF barebones into a file server. Just need to find a couple of drives.

The Accelero S1 is a superior cooler to the Zalman VF900. I've had both. The S1 has a benefit of running passive or with 1 or 2x 12cm fans
