I'm having a weird issue running the Crysis benchmarks (both the x64 and x32 versions) where my screen goes black and a couple of moments later I get a pop-up error about my drivers failing but successfully reinitialising.

I'm running Vista 64bit and using the 169.09 beta drivers, any ideas?

Well I'm sure it had pretty bad support compared to XP 32, but Vista64 seems to have good support.
No idea personally, but I have the 169.09 beta drivers for XP x64 so really I should be set to go. If I get any issues with sound drivers and the like I'll have to find workarounds.

For now I just want to be able to run the Crysis benchmarks lol. :(

It works fine now I've reinstalled on XP x64, just in case anybody cares. :p

Must have been something wrong with my Vista install somewhere.

I really don't see the point in shelling out for a DX10 system with a quadcore and 4 gigs of ram if you're just going to use an inferior OS that can barely use them.

Lol, no one buys DX10 cards for DX10, they buy them because they are the most powerfull DX9 cards. Anyone who is thinking of buying a DX10 card for DX10 should figure that DX10 is slower than DX9 still and there is totally no difference between DX9 and DX10 in games so might aswell run in DX9, also Crysis DX10 can work in DX9.

yeh but very high looks even better :)

No point using Very High, too big performance hit, you can get configs that look better than very high and also perform like high or even better than high.

It's slower because it's better at what it's designed for. The light effects are much better in DX10, shader quality is greatly increased and the game itself is more volumetric. Yes, as of now it's about 3/4 fps slower - it's worth it when you consider DX9 users won't be able to connect to servers for DX10 players. Also, new driver releases and game patches should eventually make DX10 faster performing - then you'll all be on XP, which fyi is absolutely terrible at managing several processor cores and even worse at handling ram when compared to vista, and you'll have to faf about with installing vista, again.

It realy bugs me that people are running XP and thinking the performance is sooo much better than Vista, but with vista set up right it's easily the same or better, and has more open doors for features and compatability.

You have FAR too much time on your hands then. To be worried, annoyed or for it to even have crossed your mind is pretty extreme to say the least. Worry about your own problems. Life is far too short to be bothered about what other people think. Especially when it's clearly opinionated and do you think If I thought differently that I would like someone (like yourself) come and tell me that I'm wrong and to jump into the Vista revolution?. Not a people's person?. :p

I'm sorry, I'm under the general illusion that people buy things and want them to work to their fullest potential. When people come to my forums and ask for technical assistance it annoys the living hell out of me and other regular posters when people have read things on other forums (this as well as a few others), where members seem to give the general (and incorrect) ideas that:

XP is better than Vista
4 Gigs of ram is moderately useful
You need a 800w psu to power 2 graphic cards

Furthermore, it makes the entire re-educational process a lot harder when the person thinks they're right.
