received my GT today after ending up spending more on the upgrade than I had hoped. Couldn't get more than £90 for my 320MB GTS.

1)Ran 3D Mark 06 and got about 500 points more than my oc'd GTS (11.3K)

2)Used rivatuner to oc the GT upto BFG OC2 levels. Only gained another 500 points (11.8K)

3)Attempts to take it any further caused lockups in 3D Mark:(

4)It's bloody noisy. On auto it hovers around 70% fan speed.

5) The issue I had with certain games stuttering occasionally when loading in textures I put down to the 320MB of memory not being enough to cope. However Gears of War still judders badly from time to time ruining the gameplay. Haven't tested much else yet as I'm too gutted that the GT does not seem to be solving my problems despite costing me £80.

Can someone please tell me what I might be doing wrong. Am I just expecting too much for judder free gameplay or is my system borked????

Well I dunno to be sincere - I've got your same system - E4300 @ 3.0Ghz & 2GB RAM and an X-Fi.

At stock BFG OC2 (675 core and 1950 memory) my 3DMark was 12,067 while overclocking to 729 core and 2074 memory gave me 12,396. Sure for the OC the jump in 3D marks wasn't that impressive either for me...

As for your own score, try running under a clean boot (start - run - msconfig - selective startup) or if that's too complicated just press control-alt-del and quit all processes (antivirus, antispyware, google toolbars, ctfmon etc) which you think are unnecessary.

Oh and a final word, if your OS is Vista it stands to reason that your score is lower than my identical system which is running on XP.

3d mark score sounds about right then if you get 12K. Was kinda expecting more.

Have you got GoW? Do you get stuttering at 1280x1024 with everything on high?

well for starters dont be dissapointed with your 3DMARK score, not because its just about right or a good score but because it means squat absoloutly squat and the 500 points youmention could be 1000 for all the differance it would make in games, a good 3d mark score doesnt mean a good in game performance and vice versa.

"However Gears of War still judders badly from time to time ruining the gameplay"

from what i have heard GOW is not the best performer full stop weather this be down to a badly ported game or just very lacks coding GOW form what i know is no game to queary your gpu with.
stick COD4 on on full settings at 1280 @ between 70-90fps, crysis feels a lot smoother aswell.
please dont judge this card on 3D mark scores its not a fair table to place it on it really doesnt reflect the cards ability.

***EDIT***

just to say that i do speak from experiance moving from a BFG 8800GTS 320MB OC'D to 650,1650,1800

Change Fan speed to 40%, Put core clock to 650 (with Shader Linked) and play games for a while so you know its stable then higher, most 8800gt's wont go higher than 680 core which is enough really.

3DMark scores as said by Damian mean diddly squat, are you ever going to play 3D Mark? its proper gma eperformance you want, Crysis, UT3, Orange Box, Dirt thats where you want your extra performance boost mate.

This card is paring on the GTX levels somtimes being a little ahead and sometimes a little behind at about 1/2 the price. Set the fan speed yourself, 40% is fine by mine and im on 680/1700/1800.

you know 3DMark means diddly squat now as the 2900XT is still top dog.

cheers guys, that's made me feel a bit better. Also having just downloaded the 1.1 patch for GoW seems to have made things a bit better. Off to play some games rather than sulking about my 3D Mark score..

Good man

You expect too much.

Gears of War stutters on any setup unless you have Raid 0 raptors and pagefiles on a ram drive. Patch 1.1 didn't help much either I find, in DX9 I can almost play it stutter free.

for me crysis is smoother on hight with some forced DX10 in XP at 1440/900 than blacksite area 51 lol which gets jittery

crap port

See this is what annoys me, presumably this ran beautifully on the bloody xbox which is basically an X1800 with 512MB RAM and no hard drive. (iirc). Yet put it on a pc with faster disk access, 4 times the memory and a far superior gfx card and it struggles.

I know it must be hard for the programmers to code for every combination of cpu and gfx out there but ported games do seem to be poor these days. Don't even get me started about how bad NFS Pro Street is.....

I don't understand why people find it so important to get higher 3DMark scores. My brother has a quad core, double my RAM in sig but the same card - 8800GT and he got a much higher score in 3DMark but in games we both get the same performance.

I've seen a big increase in performance over my old 320MB GTS, with games like Crysis/GoW its going to demand a lot of your system. With other games though you should be able to enjoy high settings with good FPS. Get on with the gaming like you said!! :)

I'm not totally obsessed with 3D Mark, it is nice though to run it on new hardware to give an idea of what kind of improvements you might see running games.

Just doesn't make you feel great about your hard-earned purchase when the first couple of things you try show little or no improvement over existing kit. I am still hopeful that when I start to run other stuff on it, I'm gonna start noticing a difference but didn't have too much time last night to try.

I do sometimes wonder though how much hassle I'd save myself by just buying a 360 instead....

With an Xbox360 you dont get super high res and lots of AA and games can cost more than PC versions etc..

Hence, why I haven't done it...... yet....... I only game at 1280x1024 and have a nice plasma telly in the lounge so wouldn't be that much of a hardship gfx wise.

fair enough then, seems like the game and not my 'puter which is a relief in a way but also makes buying the GT a bit pointless really. Hopefully I'll get some other stuff running better with more AA or whatever to make myself feel better.
