8800GT flashing overclock in BIOS instead of using rivatuner

I've heard that some people have set their overclock "clocks" in the card's BIOS and flashed it to their 8800GT instead of using rivatuner and has resulted in their clocks being stable. Anyone know why this is the case?

normally you would use Rivatuner (or similar) to find a stable overclock and stress test that clock before flashing to the BIOS
