8800GT Getting Artifacts and Lockups

Hey,

I just completed upgrading my system with a Core i5, MSI P55-GD65, Patriot 4GB. When I try to run any games like L4D, Company of Heroes or the recently installed Operation Flashpoint: Dragon Rising I start to get artifacts in the game.

Like in L4D some of the crashed humvees appeared to be bright green and the models of bins were crazy with huge triangs sticking off them. In Operation Flashpoint, When someone shot at me the mud thrown up would stay on the screen and would kind of look like a flash bang went off in my face.

Then in CoH It would just lock up. All these games eventually lock up and the only thing I can do to get back into Windows 7 (x64) is to hit the reset button. It totally locks up.

It's now started to effect my Desktop and the Aero theme is starting to act all buggy ( see -> http://imgur.com/3Z2Hb.png).

I've tried uninstalling/reinstalling the latest nvidia driver (191.07). What's going on on with my 8800GT?

I've not over clocked anything.

Any ideas?
Cheers

Heat at a guess, have you set the fans at 85% or so?
If its the same case then you might now have insufficient airflow throug the case and thats causing the problem. Dont forget that now its running at its very max to try to keep up with the cpu :)

Also go back to 182.08 and try them, the newest drivers don't do a lot for you GPU :(

Sounds like some loose solder is making the card play up, if the cards out of warranty etc you have nothing to lose by following this guide, make sure you take off any coolers etc first i have fixed a few cards with this method. preheated oven at 200 for ten mins then let cool for an hour

I had similar artifacts quite a while ago with my 8800GT, turned out to actually be my RAM timings, they do look like general overheating/gpu-dying artifacts too however. Have you tried underclocking the 8800GT a bit?

I had the same problem with artefacts with my 8800gt, found out it was a able kept resting against the fan everytime I closed the case. This caused artefacts and also locks ups which needed a hard reset.
