8800GT in SLi?

SLI sounds like fun but . . . . . You should be looking at the SLI motherboards, I couldn't find one I liked?

nvidia are too picky to let sli work on intel chipsets, biggest drawback of sli. eventually sli will come to an intel chipset, and when that happens, a lot more people will go sli, as intel motherboards are usually better at overclocking and stability. the 780i's when theyre out should be a lot better than the 680is at the moment, no garuntee though

If the 9*** is a month away i'd wait, but A) do we know that and more importantly b) I've just sold the GTS 640!

to sli or not...

Get one 8800GT to tide you over, if the 9800 appears to be more than 1 month away, then get a second one next year, but only get one atm.

I dont think you should upgrade that GTS at the moment, its only 1 month or so untill the 9800's unless thats feb then its 2 months, I think you should wait.

Thanks very much. I have my finger on the buy button right now on all my new kit but the new gts ill get on tuesday and you go and say that.

Whyyyyyy!

Do you have an 8800GTS old one right now? I'm saying it because I eventually realised its like 1-2 months form the 9800 so no point upgrading to an 8800GTS 512 from an 8800GTS or 8800GT as it would be a waste as I think most people with any 8800 series card could wait, but I dont think I'm going to stop you from pressing the buy button lol :p

No i have a 6800GT lol.

And you dont need to. marks and spencers just did. They arn't allowing the transaction because they think im a fraud. this is twice its happened grrr.

Never knew marks and sparks had credit cards :s

Don't know why people would criticise that motherboard tbh (looks glaringly at lay-z-boy). :D

Have a look around the internet and hardware forums, 680i boards are some of the most problematic boards I have ever encountered, thats if you don't get a DOA.

780i/790i looks to be better but not by much. :)

See, thats the problem guys.

If I wanna get an SLi board, and buy one GT card for now, and get another one next year, which MOBO do I go for!
All the SLi ones seem to be naff!!

Unless someone can recommend a good SLi mobo?

And this 9800... Is that the new ATI card?

No, the 9800 is part of the next-gen cards from nVidia, due to be released early next year. Although ATI did have an old card called the 9800 ;) (which subsequently blew up on me, grr)

Aha!

So, might be worth waiting for that card to come out. Looks like it has 1gb of ram!

What motherboards would that need to run? I might go for a P35 board, and get a GT for not, and upgrade to a 9800 when it comes out.
Is that possible?

As far as i know they are PCI-E v2 so should (presumeably) run the card fine.

Obviously no guarantees but i'd be very surprised if it didn't! :)

gt

I thought P35 boards were PCI-e 1.1 (enabled) tho the chipset is 2.0 capable... and that the new 9 series cards would be backwards compatible with 1.1, but possibly not 1.0 - but this is just off the top of my head I've not researched it.

Anymore to add to this anyone?

I'm trying to work out if its best to go with an SLi board, and getting onother GT card in the future if I need it, OR, going for a good P35 board, and getting one of the new 9800 cards next year when the price comes down a bit...

But, will the new nVidia cards work on the current P35 boards?
