Hi guys,

I have curently got my 8800 GT @ 700 / 950 / 1754

However she seems to be running at 70+ degrees when scanning for artifacts in atitool, is it worth overclocking this thing at all? If so what are the best everyday running temperatures for these cards without a premature death?

Cheers in advance

Pah, 70-odd degrees is nothing.

I have the same card and I can't find how to measure my temps, I have downloaded ATI tool and the temps don't show.

If I knew how to measure them I can tell you what mine does.

Got some artifacts on ICE gfx test (3dmark06) when memory was 1000 so lowering it slowly. What is the ideal setup for these cards on stock cooling.

Looked through it and can't find it, can you point me to the right place.:)

where you click to up the fan speed,on the same row of options should be a picture of a strip of film with a magnifying glass over it,click on that and it tells you temps.keep it running in the background and it will record them...god im crap at explaining things:)

Asus 8800GT with their custom cooler, 800/2000, no idea on temps as I havent looked yet, but I played a few hours of crysis with no issues so it's stable enough. :)

you'll have to use the latest asus smart doctor to get temperature from the latest asus en8800gt's (with the new style fan) due to it using a different temperature sensor that other programs cant read.

800 core?! Impressive. I would be interested to know what temps you are getting during various games :)

My temps vary between 82 and 85 full load, during various games. Crysis pushes the card to 85 and Gears sits happily at 82. I have a BFG 8800GT 512 OC2 card running stableat 715 / 2014. 0 errors / artifacts after hours of ATITool testing. Buying a new cooler soon, mainly because I’m not happy with the temperatures and secondly because I hope to squeeze a bit more performance out of the card!

Crysis feels perfectly smooth at 1280x1024, no AA on Very High settings in XP. However, I created a bit of a vehicle pile up last night which caused the framerate to drop a tad for a few seconds…lol.

I was well supprised it clocked that high, but I expect the Asus cooler is perhaps that much better then the stock one or it's just luck, havent unlinked the shader clock yet either.

Thanks, i'll give that a try. :)

 Nice card mate, although I'd recommend running ATITool's artefact detection program to make sure all is well. I have often found some games run perfectly while benchmark programs and ATITool show obvious signs of stress on the core / memory. Run it for at least an hour too… imho.

Installed smart doctor from the Asus CD and it gives options to set the clocks I don't see any temp monitoring, is there a specific version that I need?
Could you get me a linky as for some reason the Asus site keeps crashing for me and I can't even find the page it should be on, Thanks.:)

yeah the supplied version of smart doctor does not work http://dlsvr01.asus.com/pub/ASUS/vga/app/SmartDoc5084.zip

this is the one you need, be warned its a really ugly program.

I don't know if it's my end but the link doesn't work, just been on the Asus site again and have downloaded another version which shows the GPU temps but not the RAM temps, it's really the RAM temps I need to know as I've watercooled the GPU but it's a maze 4 and the RAM chips are not covered although I've put copper BGA sinks on them but they get real hot like burn my fingers in a second.

I see, the ram temperatures are not showing for me either. Perhaps there is no temperature sensor on the ram or the program just doesnt know how to read it.

Not so nice, died last night, can't even get a signal from it now so will have to RMA.

Overclocking without a temp readout clearly not a good idea, I couldn't get temp readout even with Asus own software either so might just get a refund and try another one with standard cooler and senors.

First card I think i've ever killed by overclocking. :D
