I'm building a new PC at the moment but can't decide on a graphics card

I know the new 9 series is just around the corner but i dont see myself spending £400 on a GPU :)

Basically just wanted opinions on whether i would see "good value" gains if i got an 8800GTS or GTX when running at 1900x1200

While i have noticed a slight hit coming from 1440x900 on my 8800GT, games are still perfectly playable (and gorgeous) on my 24". Like badbob said, bump it up a bit to the 8800GTS and it should be perfect (GTX would be pure awesome) :).

For that resolution try and find the cheapest 8800GTX you can, it's faster at that resolution due to the more memory + higher bus.

Thank's for the fast replies, look's like i'll grab a GTS then

With the new 9 series coming out, how much cheaper do you think the GTX's will get?

Well Nvidia haven't got anything out that's faster than the GTX right now and it's at a price where it will be attractive to those who don't want to spend the extra £65 for the X2 3870. So until something better comes out I don't think it will drop much.

For the extra £35 though wouldn't you want the faster card?. Better for big resolution and AA/AF.

Certainly, and I'm an 8800GT / 1920 x 1200 guy.

Praying for the next gen cards in fairness.

You know what, i've had this piece of crap dell dimension for nearly 4 years so its about time i had something nice to play games on (also got to spend these student loans on something ;))

Stock OcUKGTX it is!

I forgot to welcome you to the forums :o so welcome to OCUK. What a start to make, GTX badboy :D. You will certainly enjoy. The GTX just sails through previous game scenarios with AA with my 2900Pro.

Thank's for the welcome, only found out about the forum's last night when i was looking at the returns policy and noticed the forum link :D

Can't wait for it all to arrive though, started playing bioshock on this dell (put a 7600gt in there last year so it wasnt all bad) but i stopped playing after about 20 minutes because i didnt want to ruin it by running it 1024x768 on low :)

You're more than welcome :).

What a find that is then. It's always good to get advice before a purchase. I've went ahead myself in the past and have been just a bit too early or too late in regards to my purchases but with helpful people from OCUK as well as a lot of other forums you get to learn pretty quickly.

Wow, with you holding back (I've done this too) you will see about 4-5 times the power of the 7600GT with better Image Quality all round. The ability to do AA and HDR which none of the 7 series from Nvidia could manage and just a more clarified picture whilst you game. You will not be disappointed.

I put a 7600GT into a friends PC recently (well into the system I sold him) and I have to say it ran CoD4 pretty well with a few options off. Far Cry ran ridiculously fast also. Not bad cards but not a touch on the GTX.

That's why i love the internet, not sure about something then BAM 10 minutes later you've got 10 people giving you advice :D

I just made a thread here with all the spec's if you want to take a look http://forums.overclockers.co.uk/showthread.php?p=10988718#post10988718
