Back with a Vengeance.
Basically, I bought an 8800GT from the bay of E (used) and it doesn't seem to be working. Switch the machine on and I get nothing on my screen, and also the reset button doesn't work leaving me to hold down the power buttong to shut down. So, I'm guessing that it's locking the sytem up for some reason. I'm just wondering if I have enough juice to run it.

Basic system with one optical drive, one HD, Corsair HX520.
Any thoughts?

I ran 8800GT SLi with a Corsair 520 so I'm guessing its not that. Try reseating it and checking the power cable that goes into the back of the card.

I am a bit vague with nvidia requirements but I would have thought that would easily be enough juice to run your card. Do you have several drives, stuff that ? That'll take its toll.

No mate.
C2D chip, 2 sticks of Ram. 1 HD 1 optical. I even use onboard sound, lol.

You hear the windows start up tune? If that's the case then the PC is posting fine, defo your video card dude. Hope you manage to sort this out. Like someone mentioned above, try reseating your card and give it the once over too, eg a clean, canned air spray for getting rid of the dust and bumfluff that accumulates so readily in hardware.

can an 8800 GT run any games?

8800 GT512 will run most modern games on medium to high settings, It'll run crysis, but don't expect to see all the pretties. You might just have to fiddle with the odd setting to optimise your frame rates. But hey if we didn't want to have to that we'd a bought a concole

You've got plenty of juice to run it, I've run my spec with a 500 watt non modular antec unit before now and it's fine
I guess you've checked all the daft things like the VGA plug is correctly seated in the correct socket at the back of the cardand in the back of the monitor, tried swapping the cable over, and that it's not your monitor on the blink or the monito mains plug has come unseated. Got any pets? have they had a nibble. Basically don't take anything for granted, the number of times i've tried to problem solve by starting with the most "obvious" thing and trying to prove it is the problem rather than starting with the simple stuff and working through methodically only to find that it's just a lose lead or something of the like is untrue. Let us know how you get on.

Might be the power cable but I suspect not, as when they're not being fed by pcie power they emit an ear piercing squeel. Did your friend have an 8800 gt in his system also, i.e. were 8800gt drivers already installed on his machine. It may be a case of your old drivers conflicting with your new card. suggest put old card back in and delete old drivers then follow instructions for drivers for this card, although even without drivers you should still get something. my money's still on monitor or monitor cable. Happy hunting and good luck!

Just got home from a friends place and the card works in his machine.
Will have to try a different power cable and reseat the card tomorrow in mine as there's obviously some kind of problem with my system.

Did you plug that extra cable into the side of the GT?
Because that will cause not to start! I also have the same PSU as you:)
