8800GT Ramblings Thread

Its wierd that Gibbo hasnt been on and confirmed they will be on the site today. Im sure he did with the 7900 and 8800 releases

Indeed, but I think everyone is hoping it will clock 'proportionally' the same as the old GTS stuff.

Matthew

definatly, a proportionate oc on a gt to my gts would see it hit around 770mhz on the core 1800 on the shader and 1.15ghz on the mem 2.3ghz effecctive woot. we can live in hope, now the only thing concerning me is if the prices stated a day ago included vat or not

I'll be dropping in today to get one as I am a stone's throw from Stafford. One unamed Etailer already has them up for sale, I'm sticking with Overclockers as you can't beat their customer service.

3DMark06

May be of interest; I've read this for an 8800GT 3DMark06 Score:

OS: Windows XP SP2
CPU: E6600 OC 400MHz X 9
mobo: NV 650i Ultra
memory: DDR2-800 5-5-5-15
graphic card: GeForce 8800GT (512MB 256bit)
driver: 167.26
Score: 12072

What do you guy's think of the ocuk branded cards? - are they still decent clockers?

I want the cheapest really, but don't want a duffer.

i got:

OS: Windows XP SP2
CPU: E6600 OC 389MHz X 9 (3.5ghz)
Mobo: Asus P5W DH
Memory: DDR2-800 5-6-6-18 (due to ram incompatability)
Graphic card: HD2900XT 512mb

Score: 12035.

About 40 points behind with a lot slacker timings and 100mhz less cpu..

** The Official 8800GT 512/256mb Review/Overclocking Thread **

We have too many threads so lets have just this 1 thread, I along with moderators will update this first post with updated information as it comes.

Basically the 8800GT 512Mb seems to be 2-8% off a 8800GTX for normal resolutions and 5-10% for 1920*1200 resolution, but it can be had for as little as £135 compared to £290+ for an 8800GTX.

Please Note: the NEW 8800GTS cards will be out Nov 19th and new Ati 3000 series cards out on Nov 15th, so you may want to wait until then to decide which Gpu you want, the new GTS will be faster than this 8800GT card.

Important 8800GT info you should be aware of:

  • The 8800GT does not have DirectX 10.1, only 10.0.
  • The 8800GT does not have VC-1 decoding, however, it does have purevideo 2 and h264 decoding.
  • The Only Board currently supporting Pci-E 2.0 is the Intel x38 chipset boards, P35 boards have Pci-E 1.1
  • The Card takes up just 1 slot rather than 2 which the older 8800GTS cards used. This is because the card uses less power due to 65nm die shrink and lower default voltage.
  • HDMI connector on the card is optional, the card manufacturer can decide whether or not to add this, users with htpc's may want this as some flatscreen tv's can only get 1900*1080 via hdmi and not via dvi or vga. Users could use a Dvi to HDMI cable it they wanted to get full res on a flatscreen tv though.

Just seen the competitior pricing of 140+vat ... not a bad price, but OCuK should beat that tbh :)

I hope so but doubt it.

They were not very competitive on the launch of the 8800gtx :( I think I paid about £500 on OCUK but they could be picked up elsewhere for £450 (I actually recall the price rise from 480 to 500 in the first couple of mins :D).

I think OCUK know we will pay the extra for the quality service and in general the fact they secure larger stock amounts.
