8800GT temps

I seem to be having all sorts of temperature problems with this new build

My BFG 8800GT OC was idling at 68, under load at 88. Decided to apply some AS5 instead of the crap they use.

With the AS5, the idle was now at 54. However, when under load, I'm hitting the 100 mark I don't understand what's happened here, the fan is fully functioning (all of these temps with the fan at 40%). After playing CoD4 for about 10 minutes it's hit the 100 and now won't return below 60.

Should I try re-applying the AS5 again?

e: back down to the idle temp of 54, with my case fans on full.

Thats rather hot, my 8800 GT at 50% Fan speed is running bout 48-51c Idle and hitting 65-70c in Game, thats with my oven of a room, before the heat i got 45-48c then 65c load so 3-5c hotter, but theres sumthin wrong about yours, what case you have? go airflow etc.

Running it in a Lian Li PC7 with the stock intake and exhaust fans running at about 75%.

I've knocked the fan speed up to 60% and it's idling at 48 now, but my high temp is still hitting 90+

e: stupid question but I think I should ask anyways.

When I removed the h/s the first time, the stock paste covered a huge area, covering the outer "perimeter" of the GPU too.

I don't have to apply paste to that bit as well do I?

You only need TIM on the core, AS5 is slightly conductive anyway so you won't to avoid getting it on the circuitry as much as possible.

Mh, I thought so. I don't know what else I could have done that would cause this to happen. I assume removing the cooler voids my warranty?

Not if its put back on it doesn't, before you RMA it if needs be.
