8800gt Upgrade or not to upgrade

Depends on:

-which games you play
-if you want to use 4x and above AA + 16xAF
-which "new" cards you were considering

But I appear to be running everything on High....AA and AF in crisis is not all the way up though. I guess my question is would I really see any difference?

It is not a loaded question.

Excluding Crysis, are you happy with your GT at that res? i'm @ 1680 x 1050 and was thinking of a cheapie upgrade to a GT.

Even on crisis I am. That is until someone tells me I can make it look better. Since no one has I remain very happy.

My only addition would be to get one with the subsequent fan. The origional got too hot. Next gen was double slot.

My 9800 GT isn't dual slot, and yes it does get rather hot / loud.
I should do something about that.

As for performance, up to the 4850 it's good value (assuming you pay ~£110), beyond that it's diminishing returns. Price / performance on the 4870 / GTX 260 just isn't there.

I have the above card and run at 1680x1050

I play the latest games. What benefits would I see in a "current card"?

I have the same card (overclocked) and can run current games fine. I personally see no need to upgrade until the DX11 cards start arriving. And even then only if my 8800GT starts to struggle. Best graphics card I have ever bought. One year on and it's still going strong.

Having said that, I run games mostly at 1600x1200. I'm sure if I upgraded my trusty CRT to a 24" monitor (my next purchase) it would struggle at 1900 rez's.

If its just crsis, and your 'only' getting high then dont bother upgrading. You wont see that much inprovment at that res. Unless your a sucker for high AA/AF :p

My 8800GT, has been the longest card ive ever ran. Still fine for 1680 res. Updated to a 4870, and was wasted for my 22" monitor. When i replace monitor with a 24" or bigger, i suspect i would need a better card to run with AA & AF, but for 1680 res, i`d say no for the time being. Run the GT with the max speed you can squeeze from it.

Yea i would keep it, I have a 8800GTS 512 and was tempted to upgrade to a 4850, in the end it just wasn't worth it since my 8800GTS runs faster than most 9800GTX lol

I had 2 8800GT's, found it was plenty of power and took one away into my gf's computer, now I can play all games good quality no matter where I am.

If it does what you need it to, don't bother upgrading yet. I've got a 8800GTS 512 and I get the urge to update to the newest and greatest, but I can't justify it.

The 8800gt was one of the best cards I had, I've only got a 9800gt now because it came with the machine. Plays everything on high only game i struggled with was crysis.
