First of all I'd like to give full credit to Staypuft from [H]ardForum for his post regarding the instructions below, which took less than 10mins to apply to my 8800GT.

I have just volt mod my card and my temps have not even risen by a degree (I am using a S1 Arctic Cooler with turbo fans), yet my overclocks and temps are stable at:

I plan to nail over 800 core and push the shader past 1900.

1) Created a bootable floppy using this, just run in windows with floppy in drive: Bootable Floppy Maker /ftp://ftp.veracomp.pl/mirror/abit/pub/download/utilities/drdos/drdflash.exe or the main site bootdisk.com http://www.bootdisk.com

2) Download and run this, .nvFlash 5.57 from mvtech http://www.mvktech.net/component/op...func,fileinfo/filecatid,2246/parent,category/ Look for nvFlash 5.57, it unzips to two files. Run the nvFlash.v5.57.exe and it unzips again. Drag files (cwsdpmi.exe, nvflash.exe) from the last unzip directory onto floppy

3) Reboot PC with floppy in drive, set floppy as first boot device in BIOS. The A:\ prompt shows up.
You will type: "nvflash --save orig.rom" (that's a double dash, and the file name orig.rom is your original video bios being saved)

4) Eject the floppy and reboot into windows. Re-insert floppy and copy orig.rom to somewhere you can find it later.

5) Download and install NiBiTor 3.6 from here mvtech http://www.mvktech.net/component/op...func,fileinfo/filecatid,2246/parent,category/ NiBiTor 3.6 page

6) Run NiBiTor, got to menu File>Open BIOS and select your orig.rom. Navigate to the 'Voltages' tab, then 'Exact Mode' tab. In the drop-down for 'Extra' select 1.1V.

7) Got to menu File>Save BIOS and create a new name like voltmod.rom. Exit NiBiTor and copy your voltmod.rom to the floppy.

8) Reboot PC with floppy inserted and you're back to A:\. Type "nvflash voltmod.rom" . It will ask you if you're sure, so make up your mind and type Y if you are sure. When it's done eject the floppy and reboot.

9) Retry overclocking beyond your previous limit.

You can also edit the Clockrates tab to put your safe overclock permanently into the BIOS so rivatuner isn't always running. Up to you. Good Luck.

We ll be waiting to see how high you can get that core. Id like to see a quick crysis bench if you ever have time. Seeing how it likes every extra mhz from the cards.

Ya i think ill pass, for now atleast ;) after a few more ppl have melted their cards I may have a go.
 
I've done the same and it's stable at 720Mhz core but that's as far as i've tested since I get worse performance once the core goes over 700Mhz.

This has been discussed in the original 8800GT overclocking thread and there are some people reporting no increase in overclock after applying the mod.

Strange you say this. I tried a 720 on the core and it gave a lower score in 3dmark than 700

700/1000 is a nice round figure for me so i think ill keep it at that until i find lots of people are having success with this. Also i want my GT to live a few years, dont have any floppy disks or a floppy drive.
 
^ thats very true. Well mine crashes over 700, so thats where I leave it. You should just keep checking that the performance isnt going down as you push the card up warpy
 
Did this almost as soon as i got my card. Raised my core from 700 to 798 and the shader to 1892. I got fed up benching after that as i actually wanted to play some games. There is a hole between 700 and 740 on the core where the scores actually go down. Get past 740 and they jump again. Finally settled on 756/1836/1900 for 24/7 use. Unfortunately it does'nt do anything for the memory. Go past 1950 and mine bombs out. :(

i was sure that was the case. the same thing happened with my x1950gt @ 600/1300 (stock 500/1200). i posted that in the catalyst 8.1 tread and somebody said it was a load of ****. i though to myself i was sure that i read about that in a review but i thought the experts are right. good to see that i wasn't wrong, or completely wrong.
