8800GT vs 4870 :/

So my PC at the moment has a 8800GT in it but i want better graphics.

My motherboard is SLI ready which made me think about buuying another 8800GT. But would it be better just to buy a 4870??

Graphics section? Get a gtx260 so you can sli that.

get gtx 260 and use 8800gt as phyx card

What is your rig spec, and what resolution do you use. What games do you want to play?

Gigabtye 965P-DS3, E4300, 2GB OcZ Memory, 8800GT. Res at the moment is 1680 x 1050 on Samsung 223BW http://www.samsung.com/sg/consumer/...or&subtype=lcdmonitor&model_cd=LS22MEVSFV/XSS.

That motherboard doesn't support SLI.

edit: It doesn't even have two full size PCI-E slots...

If this is your board: Clicky - it only has one PCI-E slot for GPU.
You would need to use single card solutions like the 4870X2 or the Nvidia 295.

I think that you should wait.

Buy a 3rd party cooler if you want and overclock the card. Its pretty good and new cards will be released in a few months.

having come from an 8800GT to a GTX260, id get a second 8800GT if i was you. dont get me wrong the GTX260 is a great card, but for the price 8800gt's are selling at, you'd be better of buying another one and getting the same/moire performance.

He can't though, 8800gt's don't do very well when they're sitting on a desk cause they can't be plugged in

Not to hijack this thread, but I'm in a similar boat. I own a BFG 8800GT OC2 512mb, great card and it's been perfect for me since I built my PC last year. (Got the GT on launch).

I'm looking at adding a bit more power in a few months, I have been looking at the 285 when the price drops a little. Some of you guys are recommending SLI, is it really worth it with a GT? I'm running an Asus Striker Extreme so I have 3 PCI-E 16x slots, so it is viable, but is it worth it?

I'd appreciate opinions and thoughts.

Either way, don't go 285. Just shop around for one of the cheap 280s.
