Hello,

This may sound a bit dumb but I have just built a new system by myself and everything has been fine until this. I have been trying to get a 8800GT in the Pci express slot of an abit ip35 pro for about 4 hours now lol. No matter what I do...the half of it with the lock goes straight in but the left hand side of the card wont go in at all? Nothing is bent on the card or the slot...Is there some kind of unusual way I should be fitting this?

Thanks

What case have you got? I know my TJ09 gives me the same problem when installing my 8800GTS. I just give the bottom of the metal bracket a shove with a screwdriver and it drops into place.

Be very careful ramming a screw driver anywhere on components though lol

Sorry can't get pics, there's like a latch on the card that snugs round the bracket input port which seems to be stopping the left hand side from going fully in? Anyone else see what I mean on their cards and how they got around it?

Can you edit one of those and indicate exactly what's causing the problem? What brand is the card?

The last pic shows your problem.

That "latch" or "notch" is meant to be inside the case, not outside.

Had a similar problem with mine, all I do is get some gribbers and bend the mettal bracket on the back of the card untill it goes in.

I dont think that the graphics card or the motherboard is at fault here.

More likely that the case itself is a bit poorly constructed, with slot openings slightly wrong or motherboard mounting holes slightly wrong.

Try to loosen all the screws on the motherboard and remove all cards, then see if you can realign the motherboard so that the card fits.

Edit : just noticed the backing plate on the card LOL!!!

That metal bit is supposed to go inbetween the motherboard and the case, not sticking out the case... Just make sure that the metal bit isn't sticking out of the case, align the card with the slot and push in.

Thanks guys, new problem lol....If i make sure the metal bit isnt sticking out then the card won't go in the slot at all. If I push the slot end first then that goes in fine, the latch is then stuck out of the case again at which point im assuming that latch is preventing the other half of the card from going in the pci-e slot??

Ok it went in, thanks for the help. It amazes me how I have just built a full system almost flawlessly and yet I cant put a pci-e card into its slot.
