Hi

I'm looking to upgrade my X1900XT > 8800GTS, but I'm not sure which version to get.

It will be connected to a Dell 2407 with games played at 1920 x 1200. The thing is, I'm not sure how much extra oomph there is with the 640MB version of the card. It's currently about £50 more than the 320 version. Is it worth the extra?

I play mainly MMORPG type games, with the occasional FPS thrown in when I'm feeling bored.

The spec of my PC is Abit Quad, C2D 4300 (will upgrade to the quad when the price drops), 2 gig 6400 RAM, X-FI running XP.

Thanks

I'm gonna go for the 640MB on that res too :)

And mine overclocked a lot more than i was expecting it too, it has a much higher memory BW than at first so i guess that makes filling out the RAM easier too? :)

get the 640 mb gts and overclock it, its an absolutely brilliant card, and games i have play very well. eg bf2 maxed out, 100 fps average. same for cod2 full detail
in game. no artefacts or crashes whatsoever. this is on a 20 inch screen at 1680x1050. btw when i clock my card using rivatuner clocks are 620/980

BFG GeForce 8800GTS <-That's the card I've just purchased today. I'm hoping it's worth the money!
well worth the money, great card at stock settings. overclock it it can get to near gtx speeds and its a pretty quiet card as well

I would have thought at 1920 x 1200 in some games your going to have to turn eye candy down as from what I've seen the 8800GTS struggles at this res and is more for a GTX, so if you have not ordered yet, I would also recommend saving up abit more for a GTX, or if you get a GTS in some games your going to have to turn the res or details down (Oblivion etc..), if you can live with turning the res or details down then the GTS will be ok if your planning on upgrading to the G90 or whatever when it comes out.

Yeah, I have wanted to know if the 320 version would be enough for me. I will be gaming at 1440x900, will that be okay? I can't really afford the 640 version, but which would you say would be better for me?

Sorry for hijacking by the way...

If you can only afford one version, why does it matter which one is better lol.

the 640 is obviously better... but you cant afford it :P

I game at 1440x900, I got the 640mb versions for piece of mind, if your cant afford it, save up for it, but I'm sure there is some games that will take adavntage of the higher memory capacity at 1440x900 :).

But then again, G90 will be out at the end of this year, well i'm hoping for it to be out closer to crysis release, but the 8800GTS320 will tide out over untill the G90 if your planning on upgrading to that and really cant save up for the 640mb.
