8800GTS 320mb?

kooj said:
apparently the evga 8800 gts 320mb is on par with with an asus 8800gts 640mb
Don't forget that's a "superclocked" version, not like it will make any difference.

The 320 and 640 are neck and neck until you hit 1600x1200+ resolution.

BFG and EVGA 320mb GTS's are a couple or so frames faster than the Asus 640mb GTS at every res below 16x12 as they are overclocked, the Asus is standard clocks. :)

Ideal if yer running 16x12 and below.

if u got 180 quid to blow get a 8800gts otherwise save the money as new cards round the corner and i can see a 1800 /1900 radion thing coming and theyll drop like rocks in price.as 8900 cards will be here sooner than peeps think.

Thats if there doing 8900's, rumour doing the rounds that they skipped them and gone straight to G90, so we'll just have to wait and see what happens. :)

i never realised my card was that on par with the GTX @ 1280x1024, thats put a right smile on my face, jesus christ its a BEAST.

In June for my birthday I will be upgrading to C2D, but for now I have an AMD Athlon 64 3700+, will this be a majour bottleneck for my 8800GTS? The FSB is something like 200x11 and HT @ x5 multiplyer (2000MHz)

I just looked at another thread and seen someone complaining about there 8800GTS scoring like under 5000 and they have a Pentium 4, but my previous CPU was a Pentium 4 3ghz and surely my 3700+ is allot better anyway? I hope my 8800GTS will not be performing well.

^^ Pardon? :D

The CPU will most likely hold the 8800 back, but it depends at what resolution etc you play at.. You could always overclock a wee bit

Oh sorry :p, meant to say I hope it will be performing well :p

My cpu is currently clocked at 2.8ghz (254x11) 3x HT Multiplyer. I am intending on overclocking the 8800GTS to the best it can go, I hope my CPU does not make the graphics card perform like total crap and only get like 4000 in 3d mark 06 I mean my X800XTPE got about 2300 in 3D Mark 06 lol.

Well as soon as I get the card installed I am gonna try 3d mark 06, most peoplle get like 8-11,000 so it cant be right that a pentium 4 3ghz is such a bottleneck it can halve the score :\

Also I was just reading on another forum, some person claming to know it all said that most new games coming out wont even run on a single core cpu, is this true? that would put a spanner in the works with getitng an 8800GTS.

most new games coming out will run fine on a single core gpu, games will always accomodate the majority hardware, a 8800GTS wont be surpassed by what average joe has for years to come.

An X800XT PE is around 3 years old? and still most games it can play at high settings, so how long do you think a GTS will last when playing games at highest settings and res of about 1400x900?

If I were to get the 320mb GTS, then I would get an AMD 64 X2 3800+, but I dont know if that would be betetr than my 3700+, but I am set on a 640mb one now anyway, if my CPU is a severe bottleneck, then tough, it will have to do untill june.

How much of an upgrade do you think X800XT -----> 8800GTS is? How many more times is an 8800GTS more powerfull than my current card?

I'm not so sure of how long the GTS will last at full settings but it should be a fair amount of time hopefully.

The X1900 is about half the power of the 8800GTX. The X1900 is double the power of the X800. I'd say between 160% to 170% more powerful your GTS is than your X800. More than two and a half X800's (roughly). I was really impressed with the jump from X800 to X1900 so I think that this jump is a LOT better. :D

If you can get a decent X2 then a 2.6Ghz - 2.8Ghz overclock would do you well. Even better if your resolution is 1280x1024 or smaller.

x800xtpe still play games at highest??? what??
the 8800GTS for me was a STONKING improvement over my xtpe, nothing right now touches it, 1280x1024, highest quality driver settings, ingame everything pushed up to the highest, looks beautiful, no slowdowns. Hell, i dont even get titan slowdown on 2142 =)

come on you've got an 8800gts now. there's no reason to lie to yourself about the performance of the x800's. they just arent top end cards any more, and there's no way in hell they can run games with all those lovely settings turned up high. Definately not with fsaa.

generally, and i mean very generally here, i've found that in most benchmarks ive done my 8800gtx is 2-3 times faster than my old x800gto2 but only when using comparable settings - ie 1280x1024, 2xfsaa, settings that didnt make the 800 crawl ect. its with high levels of fsaa (4+), turning all the goodness on and higher resolutions that the 8800 just takes off.

he might not play the newest games, but im with you on this one, the xtpe cant play things on highest and hasnt been able to for years, reason being SM3

I havent got my 8800GTS yet, Its coming on thuesday and I cant wait, I cant sleep ahah, its like Christmas coming :p

I aint lieing, just the other day I was playing Oblivion at 1440x900, all maxxed out, with low AA/AF on and was nice, yes it does lag slightly in places, but its perfectly playable, also FSAA? whats that, course my X800XT PE wont run at that haha.

I also played F.E.A.R on almost highest settings at 1280x1024, perfectly playable all over, NFSC, maxxed out, doom 3, maxxed out, NFSMW, maxxed out, NFSU2 also, Everqyest 2, medium  , DreamFall, maxed out, Guildwars: Medium , over the past year I have been complaining about my X800XTPE slightly, but really, its been an amazing card, and still running stuff on max, of course with no HDR except for Dark Messiah and HL2, but X800 cards have come to the end of the road now, but 3 years of awsome performance from them, I hope to see 3 years of awsome performance from the 8800GTS too.

Most of those games are from the same generation as the x800xtpe, so yes the decent performance is right, guess most of us assumed you were playing more modern games. I just sold on my xtpe system to my mate, had mine set up lanned next to his and my new system made his look like a mega-drive =)

is that a fact?

i would think yes, it more than lags in places lol. As for f.e.a.r, i'd love to see those benchmarks because i could only just get away with using 2x FSAA with my x800gto2 and a 3ghz opteron with everything up full in that game, and thats without soft shadows.

the x800's were great cards, more so the gto2 because they were so cheap at the time, but they are easily shown up by the 7900/x1800's, let alone anything faster:)

Lol, I am not lieing, I dont care what those damnd benchmarks say at toms hardware, It was playable, ok this is how I had it.

1280x1024, just enabling the AA or AF whichever it is in games, all maxed out, it was playable, lagging abit in places, at 1440x900 I had everything maxxed with no AA or AF, and it was perfectly playable, I dont care who thinks I am lieing or talking crap, it was playable for me, so deffenitly not 11fps coz thats not playable.

Yea in F.E.A.R I disabled soft shadows, I cant remmeber but I think I did not have AA or AF on.

I only started having problem when I tried to max out BF2 and 2142, I had no chance, had to put those games to Medium.

I thought Test Drive Unlimited had better graphics, I have the res @ 1440x900, graphics at high, no HDR of course, but I rekon I could, and I am using my X800XT PE, does test drive unlimited downgrade the graphics because I dont think they look all that good tbh. I also had 4x AA on aswell and the gameplay is really smooth...
