8800gts 512 > 4850......

what games do u play and what res aswell. From what I know games such as crysis arent much of a fan of ATI cards and you will be getting similar results with your GTS as you would a 4850.

I play games at 1680x1050 but I'm purchasing a 24" in the next couple of weeks so I was I was looking at the 4850 as I like the idea of Xfiring a couple of them eventually but would just buy one for now.

Play games such as Crysis, Stalker etc...

for 1900x1200 you might want to look at the 4870...although the 4850 will handle it fine and two in crossfire will destroy :D

I've got a 4850 and I'm running at 1920x1200, Crysis plays ok almost maxed out but its certainly not as smooth as I would like.

COD4, GRID, and all Source games run very nicely with AA and AF maxed, my card has a decent overclock though.

I came in expecting an argument from the OP about how their 8800GTS is better than a 4850. :o

Thread fails to deliver. :D

I think some users here are actually starting to beleive there own crap, 8800GTS/8800GTX/9800GTX/+ and HD4800 are all close performance wise, which you use doesnt matter, "upgrading" from one to the other would be complete waste of time, this is about giving a user good advice and not another chance to try and promote your favourate card.

I have had all the cards you mentioned except the 9800GTX, and all were voltmodded...in my experience with AA the 4850 pulls far ahead.

Even at 900core 2.3ghz shader the 8800GTS 512mb was not very good at all at anything over 4xAA 1680x1050 in CoD4.

My 4850 does well over 100-120fps average with 8xAA 16x AF int he same game and same resolution..

I recall a similar conversation I had with you regarding the 3870x2 vs the 9800GTX....I said that my 3850/3870 xfire setup was faster than my voltmodded 8800GTS 512mb and you basically called me a liar and said you would wait for reviews of the 3870x2....and then when they came out you had nothign to say

Maybe he doesnt use 8xAA, I don't, never have and never will as 4xAA is more then enough for me. :p

I said no such thing, but OK.

It wouldn't be a waste of time, hes on about getting a 24 incher (ohh err :D) and geting another 4850 to go Xfire. :)

Well sort of, he said he will buy one and eventually get another one, define eventually, weeks? months? if so why not just stick with the 8800GTS for now and buy two 4800's later when there cheaper, buying one to replace a 8800GTS is pointless even for a short term as he won't get a worthwhile performance increase.
