8800GTS 512MB Ramblings Thread

Is it just me, or does the new GTS seems to be a bit of a disappointment? After the GT did so well, I expected more than a 5-10% improvement in performance. Perhaps Nvidia made a mistake giving the GT 112 SP's and should have stuck with the 96. The two cards are too close to eachother.

I think they've probably capped it on purpose, the 9 series uses the G92 and they have more than likely capped it's ram bus width, ROP's and so forth so their 9 series will be a huge improvement. Also I think the GTS is meant to be aimed at people that don't already have a GT/GTX/Ultra, and in that respect it's a great upgrade. GT -> GTS though is like GTX -> Ultra, not a lot and definetly not worth the change.

How empty the 8800GTS section looks at the moment . . . wonder what's hiding away, waiting to be revealed!

Ahem, wrong number of stream processors quoted :)

I just wonder if we're gonna get another 8800 gtx with 12 more stream units...may as well add to the confusion.

Could someone who has managed to get a new Gigabyte GTS confirm the manufacturer's product code for me?

GV NX88S512H-B

This is what they have it listed on their site as, but I've also seen this code used elsewhere for a GT.
