8800GTS disappointing performance

Just got a BFG 8800GTS card, I'm getting a few more fps but it is not as smooth as my old 7950GT card. In FS2004 everything looks jagged ( As though the anti aliasing is off), AVI files appear blocky and jerky. I've tried the lastest drivers and those that came with card and there is no improvement :( . I've contacted BFG and they want a full run down of my PSU set up, Thermaltake W0116RB 750W Toughpower PSU. This should be able to run it powerwise. Does anyone have any suggestions or advice as to what to try to improve the performance or are these cards just not that great. My machine - Intel Core2 Duo 6700, Asus P5B Delux mobo, 4GB Corsair 800MHz DDR2 RAM. Thanks in advance René :)

should have got the 640mb at that res but i dont think thats the issue, have you used driver cleaner to get rid of any remnants of the previous card and then installed the new set.

That could be your problem, as far as I know the 320 version is really mainly focused on low res.

The 640 version would have shown better improvements.

Try playing at 1280x1024 (I think thats it) see if you get better FPS.

As for AVi files no clue, try reinstalling codecs.

I hope this helps.

Best to go to Add/Remove and remove the drivers, then reboot into safe-mode and run Driver Cleaner Pro , select Nvidia and hit start for it to do its cleaning, once its done reboot normally and cancel the Found New Hardware Wizard, then just install latest drivers. :)

Tried the method mentioned by loadsamoney and unfortunately no difference  . Also just like to say thanks for the advice so far recieved :D . Anyone any other thoughts................

No, this xp pro. I do dual-boot with vista ultimate 64bit Edition - but that battle I'll leave for another day ;) . Haven't used Vista with new card

I see that LoadsaMoney has self same card I have, what drivers are you using I'm using 158.22_forceware_winxp_international_whql, thanks

Certainly don't need 640mb for 1600x1200 with up to 4xfsaa on modern games! even my 4200+ and 8800gts can handle that easily on all well made games!

I think it will be to do with the resolution you're running at.

One good way to tell, turn it down! :p Pop it onto 1280x1024 and run your games again.

Knocking the res down to 1280x1024 would make the game look even more jagged....

Aw crap.

I thought he meant "not as smooth" as in the frame rate has dropped.

Ignore me, hopefully they'll perfect brain transplants one day and i'll be saved. :o

You don't need to run the resolution down on any 8800gts, argh!
