Hi.

My 8800GTS is failing badly. The PC does not want to boot up at all. It will display either a black screen (with monitor flashing light) or it will display the POST screen.

Looking at the card (with stock cooler) it seems like all the thermal paste has gone hard and dry.

Is it worth spending £30 and buying a new cooler that will fit or shall I just bin it and buy a new card?

Yes tried it in another PC.
Oven... that is mental. The wife will kill me.
New one coming up, I think.

I said exactly the same, sitting there with a completely bricked 465, but I did it and now Im sitting here playing BF3 with it overclocked performing better than ever ^^

Its very simple and nothing can go wrong, and for some reason its very popular with 8*** series cards.

If its broke just do it... I know it wounds ridiculous but it really does work for quite a few people and 200 degree's isn't that hot plus its only in there for 8-10 minutes just enough for the soldier to melt slightly and fuse any imperfections back together, all it does is warm the rest of the card up, no fumes or anything.

Took me 50 mins from taking the cooler off, putting it in the oven and let it cool and it just worked like new when I put it back in the PC.... amazed

Not sure, all I know is the temp has to be 195-200 degree's C (385 F)

I think a normal electric oven is probably better to use...

It needs to be a fan assisted oven so that heat is distributed properly and it's not worth baking a 8800 GTS.

GTX? maybe, but the GTS is not worth wasting your time and money (thermal paste and possibly pads) on.
