Hey guys do you think its worth upgradeing my 8800GTS G92 Card to something better?

Are should I hold off for awhile longer?

:)

What games do you play?
How much money do you want to spend?
What problems are you finding with your current card?

Personally I'm holding off all PC hardware until after Christmas as the currencies are doing a merry dance which is killing prices. Also if VAT falls everything should be 2.5% cheaper, but that depends on what you want and when you want it.

Giving a grand saving of..... £25 on a £1k build so not a reason to hold off. Best reason to hold off would be the impending release of updated 260/280 cards and possible ATI release in the NY?

I doubt that 2.5% will be passed on, most retailers have set price points so they will trouser the gain. However that gain will likely be offset by ocuk cost in accountancy fee's to change from 17.5 to 15.0%. Nice thought though, shame it's the same old #### from Labia,.

Still using a G80 GTS with 320mb here. get's me by, no way i'm upgrading until prices are more reasonable or I can find something good second hand. I'm after something powerful with at least 1GB video mem (i have a large monitor) for less than £150. When that happens i'll be there!

I like to play the latest games like Far Cry..etc. I Have no real budget but I do like a bang for you buck card...more saved the better :). I just feel that my Computer (sig) has more potential in games that it is showing with this card.

I have being thinking about waiting till after xmas aswell! Though I aint tottaly sure yet.

260-216 is the only card worth buying now, thats if your wanting to buy now and not wait, as its not far behind the 280, yet its around £130 cheaper, and its quite a bit faster than the 4870 1gb which is also dearer. :)

Whats this i hear off a refresh off Nivida cards before the end off the year? Will it be like what happend with my card (8800GTS 512Mb) at the end off last year?

That articles a load of crap tbh, as the GTX 270/290 are already out (so god knows how they are going to respin them again), as the Quadro FX4800 and 5800 are them, they just have more memory on them due to being used for CAD etc..., and the 55nm 260/280 are already out also (they silently replaced the 65nm ones with those, so all new 260/280's now should be the 55nm's).

Either way though, i can't see them releasing a card in December, as im sure November is their new launch month now, as im sure they said that when they released the G80 8800's in that month in 2006, although saying that, didn't the GTX 260/280 come out before November, i can't remember. :p

This more rectne news (17th Nov) from the same source (yes i know, mountain of salt etc)
We've told you that Nvidia said to its investors and the rest of the world that they are shipping 55nm in volume, but we were surprised to learn that Nvidia expects that more than 70 percent of GT200 chips shipped in Q4 to be 55nm.

Nvidia plans to do this quietly, as it doesn’t plan to change the specification of the existing GTX 260 216 Shaders and GTX 280 cards. Nvidia counts on the Jack in the box effect and you might be surprised that the card you buy in December will come with a 55nm GT200 chip and likely overlclock better.

The 55nm chip will be a bit cooler and smaller, and the first cards based on them are expected in early December.
Smacking of the Q6600 'G0' launch, and i can see places like ocuk charging more for the 55nm version, even if it still says 260/280 on the box.

The 260-216 could be the only card for the rest of this year, as they have now brought its price below the 4870 1gb, and its also quite a bit faster now, so they now have a card to compete with it (as they didn't before in the 192 streamer).

I ponder how much longer my G92 8800GTS will keep me happy on a regular basis. I game at 1680 x 1050, and the card handled Far Cry 2 with ease at 2x AA and max settings, but when I jacked it up to 4x, it didn't really like it.

For the time being I think a G92 GTS is fine, but come the new year I'll definately be considering something new - which is good, cos I have sod all money to play with at the moment anyway...

well i game at 1680x1050 upgraded from 8800gts g92 to 4870 1 gig. there is improvements and image quality better but was not much point as i could have played everything. so i suggest just keep it till newer cards will come out

I,m using a 640mb gts,and have been pondering the very same question.
Christmas is on the way,i can still play my games at a very good framerate,on my 19"tft btw,and when i occasionally use my 27" tv via hdmi cable it still performs amazingly,so ,its not broken as they say,no need to fix it.
I,ll upgrade/get a newer system when i have to,due to the constraints of games that are not out,or even on the radar.
Games i play on a regular basis,
Rfactor
COD4
GTR2
Race07/evo
GTL
MTW2
CSS/DODS
Fallout3
If the wheels fall off my gpu, then an "emergency" upgrade would happen.
