8800GTS installation problem?

Just built my first PC in ages and I'm having some problems getting it running. I've gone for a Gigabyte DS3P, E6420, 620W HX Carsair PSU, Corsair 6400 C4 RAM and a 8800GTS.

Having obssessed over the instructions and finally put the thing together I hit the on switch and got the somewhat underwhelming response of noise but no pictures. There is absolutely no visible output at all to the monitor. I can hear the individual components and the case / CPU fans are running so power seems to be getting through.

So far I've tried carefully reseating the card in the second PCIe slot, using both sockets on the back of the card all with no success. The graphics card cooler is expelling air as well so seems to be getting power.

Anyone have any ideas - as I cannot even see the POST or get to BIOS there doesn't appear to be any configuration aspects I can try. Does this sound like a dead card or could it be related to other factors like the motherboard. Any and all suggestions gratefully received.

No sadly I don't have any other PCIe cards myself to try - I'm in the process of trying to borrow one from a friend to use as a test.
