8800GTS - Just ordered

My dad wanted me to spec out a new PC for him, just for office work, browsing the web and such.

I suggested that he took my X1800XT and used that, and then just bought one new card to replace mine

Anywho, i found this on the site

Any reason why it's so cheap? It's cheaper than the OCUK one.

Should be a big step up anyway!

Probably only cheaper as its on offer, cracking card that, be an absolute huge step up from your x1800, i went from an x1800 to the older GTS, and even that was more than double the performance, the new GTS could probably be about 4x faster.

May as well ask this whilst i'm here.

I'm using a Seasonic S12 430w at the moment, i'm guessing that will run the card fine. Contemplating swapping it for a Corsair 450w? I don't think it will be worth the hassle though, as they're practically the same anyway?

Recommended minimum specs are 425W, 28A. So you should be ok.

if you can get a more powerful PSU it will obviously only benefit you so why not

mine runs sweetly on a 400w enermax liberty.. don't see the need to upgrade psu tbh. unless i go for a meatier cpu

your not serious? ultra high at 1680*1050, this is surely on XP DX9? i have 8800GTS G92 very overclocked, very overclocked E6750 and 4Gb of ram and i wouldn't say my GTS 'eats' crysis on ultra settings, not half bad but certainly not great

Well it turned up today, albeit two days late...

First impressions are very good, just finished installing the drivers, and i'll get some benchmarks up if anyones interested.

The card was a lot shorter than i expected.. i thought i would have some trouble fitting it in my Lanboy.

Oh, and i put in a new PSU too

The card was a steal at £140 though!

Well i tried 3D Mark 05, as a direct comparison to my X1800, and i scored a tad over 20,000. 1800 scraped 10,000.

Shame i've gotta go to work soon, i want to investigate more
