8800gts or 4850

50 in a week or 2? so about 30 for an 8800GT? Is there massive ATi price drops and new cards or something?

Nope but a 9800GTX is about to become £120, therefore a GTS new can't be £150-£160 anymore and has to drop below £100 and a new GT will then have to drop below £80.

That's why your 2nd hand GTS won't be worth more than £50 ;)

Hell, most on MM in last couple of days have gone for £85 delivered.

Only another £35 to go ;)

If you are gaming @ 1920 x 1200 you will see a decent improvement over a 8800GTS, whose performance seems to drop off when going above 1680 x 1050....

If you are selling an 8800GTS in the MM (at present time) you can expect to get £90 or less for it I would imagine

You would get some improvement but as for how much who knows

You certainly would in COH and Devil May Cry 4

A 4850 at 790/1100 gets at 1680 x 1050 8 x aa

111.52 fps
81.05 fps
133.79 fps
81.42 fps

My vastly overclocked G92 GTS got the following:

90.25 fps
67.05 fps
98.52 fps
67.93 fps

Therefore the gains with the oc 4850 was as follows:

23%
20%
36%
20%

So with 8xaa even my 9800GTX+ speed GTS can't keep up with an overclocked 4850.

I have been having the same dilemma as the poster hence the thread I started based on overclocked GTS vs OC 4850.

I am trying to gauge whether it's worth swapping while my GTS is still worth £90 - £100.

Looking at the benchmarks I would suspect that at worse in some games it would be a sideways move and in others especially with lots of AA it would be a 20-30% gain.

STill tempted to throw the extra £60 and get a 4870 just to make sure it is an upgrade though and give my new card more longevity.

Oh and to the OP, the 4 series cards owns COD4 ;)

"What are you on? I sold a 7950GX2 on fleabay for £90 a couple of weeks ago."

Things are only worth the amount that people are willing to pay. :)

Lucky you. The point is already people on fleabay won't pay more than £90-£95 for a 8800GTS G92 if you look at the last ones sold.

And a couple of weeks is a long time and before 4850 launch. Back then a 8800GTS G92 would have got you £120+

So prices falling already both on MM and the fleabay so your point is irrelevant IMO.
