8800GTS - Overclocked

Hello,

I have just bought one of these 8800GTS, the OC version, 320MB.

I am very impressed with it to say the least. I have used nTune to overclock it, and because I am a noob at OC, i just pressed the "find optimal" button.

The results seem quite high.......

The GPU is 658 from 513 stock.
The Memory is 986 from 798 stock (doubles i know because its GDDR3)

I have played a few games and nvTray reports the speeds as correct, and the card is rock steady. I'm just shocked how easy it was, and by the size of the increase.
Am I fortunate or is this normally the case?

most 8800GTS`s should do 650/1000 with stock cooling, of course a few that dont.

I think all EVGA cards are meant to be revision 3 which are meant to be the best overclockers.

Slightly disagree with you. I haven't found anybody who can't do 621 but there are quite a few which will only do that and no more. More than a few.

Almost as many people can get to 650.

The really, really lucky handful, and there aren't many, get 700.

One or two people on these boards have and a few review sites have had cards where they got them to that speed however, they may have been sent "good" cards in the first place.......

Well done on getting ntune to work. It hangs mine as soon as it increases 1 Mhz yet ati tools gets it to 650.

Good overclock that btw. Now try rivatuner 2.05 and see if you can get your shader clock any higher
