Hi all

i have an 8800GTS that currently outputs to two screens on is a
samsung 20" lcd the other a rubbish 17" jobbie.

what im wondering is if there is a decent upgrade path from this card.

had considered looking at the 9800x2 but what i've read seems to suggest that it wont do duel screens.

is it worth upgrading from this card or just stick with the GTS?

thanks for any advise

Loki

Yeah, currently I think the 9800x2 is the best "dual" card out atm...But if you can wait a while untill more comes out.

That and the fact the 9800x2 isn't actually part of the 9800 series, can't remember exactly but isn't it two 8800 Gt's? Someone else can clarify that.

Surely the card supports dual monitors though? The current 8800's do, so did my x1900...?

Two Slightly under clocked 512mb GTS's from what ive heard.

Tbh Id just stick with the GTS for the moment until more of the 9 series cards either become more avaliable or cheaper.

I went from G80 GTS, to G92 GT then to G92 GTS and saw benefits at each step on a 22" screen. The upshot is that the G80 GTS still commands a half decent price (as it is still a decent card).

Yes the 9800 GX2 is 2x 8800 GTS 512mbs (downclocked), but thats also the whole of the 9 series, as they are all 8800's still, all Nvidia have done is change the first 8 to a 9, 9800 GTX thats released next week is also an 8800 GTS, its just slightly clocked more on shaders and memory, and has had an extra SLi connector added so it can be TRi SLi'd, instead of what they can do now, which is only paired.

GX2 can't do dual monitors, as its an SLi card, and SLi can not do dual monitors, you can run dual monitors on it, but 1x core will be disabled, so it will run as a single GTS.

AMD's CrossfireX is more advanced than crappy old SLi, they can do dual monitors fine, and can also mix and match cards, like a 3870 can be paired with a 3850 etc..., where as with SLi you can only pair 2x of the same, its about time Nvidia got with the times. :D
