Where have they all gone?!!! No where has the faster GT's in stock! Is there a stocking problem or are they just really popular?

I can't make up my mind now, I've had one on order for a few weeks now and I've just seen that they're not going to be in stock for another 3-4 weeks. I'm starting to doubt whether I should get one after all the problems I've seen about them overheating, and the one game I was getting it for (Crysis) seems to be a bit buggy. I'm debating whether to just leave it and stick with my 7800GTX and play COD and Crysis on low details. What would you do?

If there's still no sign of stock then I'd cancel the order and just get the cheapest 8800GT you can find. they don't overheat unless you have massive overclock. You can always adjust the fan speed with rivatuner so heat is not an issue.

The 7800GTX will play COD4 in almost highest detail except AA and AF. I play in 1400x900 on X1800XT which is about the same as a 7800GTX. It struggles with crysis however.

Just cancel the order and get a different one thats in stock.

I just had a look and theres lots of offer, but strangely a lot on pre-order too =/

That's the reason I ordered a faster card (EVGA SSC 8800GT - 700/2000/1750), I didn't want to have to worry about overclocking and voiding the warranty and deal with the possibility of overheating. And seeing as the majority of cards in stock are all at stock speeds (600/1800/1500) I think I might struggle to overclcok by such a large amount.

Saying that I've just seen this model (Leadtek GeForce 8800 GTB OC 512MB GDDR3 HDTV/Dual DVI (PCI-Express)) in stock at what seems like a very good price. Anyone got any views on it, especially with regards to noise levels/tempertaures?

Thanks.

I can't comment on the OC version, but I can recommend the standard Leadtek 8800GT. It's sleek, thin, and very powerful. I can max everything on every game @ 1680x1050. Haven't tried crysis yet though I know it won't hack that at full settings but for £165 you can't really expect it to, plus Crysis is a piece of junk and will batter even a GTX at full settings.

It's also very very quiet and this is coming from someone who's religious about silence!

Just cancel the order and keep your 7800, no point buying a new card just for 1 game.

Yea I was contemplating whether I was doing this for a while. I'm still undecided. Do you think the 8800GT be able to run some of the future games ok (Alan Wake, far cry 2 for example)? I was hoping that it should be ok for another year or so, at medium settings at least, my thinking being that Crysis is not that well optimised, so other new games might be ok to run on high settings. WIs this a reasonable idea or or is it completely wrong?

And I have definately cancelled it now. It's whether I should get a new one or not!
