Just wondering if youy chaps think it is going to be worth upgrading from my ageing 7600gs 512mb to a 8800GTS 320mb?

I know I would obviously see a difference but not sure if it is going to run the latest games ok?

I can get the card for £55 inc P&P but would just like your views.

Thanks

not really worth it as there is a lack of memory and for a bit more you could get a second hand 8800gt. I would get a new 3850 512mb if you have to buy new.

Low memory may be an issue for some but if you're not gaming at high res or using AA then it will be a huge jump from your 7600GS... I replaced a 7900GT with one for a friend who was 'amazed' so though an old card still a good one. The change hands for less than that second hand but new, with warranty and delivery ... still a good card

The new ATI 4670 performs similar to the 8800GS / 9600GSO (same card!) and 8800GTS 320

On offer this week for £60 + post

I upgraded from an X1950Pro 512MB to a 320MB 8800GTS and the 8800 is a world ahead of the old ATI card from my experiences, the ATI card itself was a replacement for a 7600GS funnily enough!

I only paid £38+VAT for my 8800GTS mind (OC shop special) - you could probably do better for your money.

Find one cheap second hand though and I'd say go for it.

I assume your board supports PCI-e?

if your looking for a mid range card the 8800gts 320 is fine...but beware!! crysis will have it begging for mercy in DX10...i know with experience even in SLI...

Yeah my mobo is PCI-e so thats not going to be a problem. Thanks for all your advice guys. I think I may be looking at getting the card then but as you said, I can get it cheaper so I'll have a good look around.

it's an awesome upgrade from that card..

i'd be tempted to look for either a 512mb 8800gts or a 512mb 8800gt (both are better than the 320 and 640mb 8800gts range

all in all, it's a decent upgrade and i'd be tempted to take it mate :)

can get about £10-15 back from the old card too
