Just tried to play hl2, infact I tried a few Source engine games and it totally craps out on me.

In half life 2, the 3d menu background loads fine then a couple seconds later it goes all trippy, going all black and just highlighting the wires on the pylons then strange shapes move around and leave trippy shadows (I assume its the characters moving around)

Then I tried a game with a static menu like dod : source. That loads up alright, menu shows up fine but when I click on one of the menu options three quarters of the screen turns black and the bottom right corners turns grey, I still see my pointer and can hear the sound of it scrolling over the menu options though, anyone else expierencing this?

Im using 97.02 by the way.

strikes me all this card is good for right now is the benchmarks.

It will have probably lost around £100 in depreciation before NVIDIA get around to releasing a decent set of drivers, let alone a set for Windows Vista.

Same drivers and spec as below, I've been playing HL2 for the last week with no issues - apart from getting shot a lot as I gawp at the beautiful hi-res graphics. Not heard of any other major 8800 source issues either.

well just as an update, I installed the Alienware whql signed 8800 96.98 drivers and it fixed it, it not only fixed it but I saw my Company of heroes FPS just about double (and it was nice to begin with)

well problem solved, I'll stick to these drivers for the time being, there smooth as hell

Hmm, got my GTS yesterday, installed fine, ~8000 on 3dmark06 but when playing Dark Messiah (Uses the source engine) i get weird artifacts, green rectangles to be precise!

Anyone else get this?

:(

Get the latest drivers from NV

If you are still getting them its the card.

I have zero issues with the NV drivers off their site.

i heard 97.02 were really buggy and lots of people had probs with them. I'm on 97.28 and got no probs with my GTS

Its a known fact the 8800s have a prob with source. It'll be fixed soon & has been mentioned hundreds of times

Dave take it easy mate, the reason I posted was because the particular problem I had at the time was not reported anywhere, it wasnt the 'grey mist' problem thats been mentioned 'hundreds of times' it was a completely different issuse, and the cause was the .02's I was using, I since resolved it and posted again with the hope that other people having a similar problem can fix it themselves.

No need to get antsy and bold at me mate.

hahaha! I don't know why that's so funny to me, but it is.

"like, he was coming on all bold and stuff... almost thought he was gonna start going caps, ya know?" :p

I don't know if it will help, saying as Source seems to be the problem. But tryout the latest beta drivers,

http://downloads.guru3d.com/download.php?det=1524

97.28 (Windows XP) and they are meant to be for the G80. :)

I've been using them on my 7800GTX without any issues at all (but apparently there is a bug still in Splinter Cell DA).

Worth a shot at least! :)

Wasnt going all "bold" on ya ;), just saw loads of posts with none saying its a prob the 8800s have with source (which I expected to see almost right away). There are loads of issues ll over the web, its silly it hasnt been sorted yet tbh :(

odd, ive had ZERO problems with source and my 8800.

I had some problems after installing different drivers on top of each other (97.02, 96.86). The HL2 menu was flashing on/off, and textures were messed up, but after using Driver Cleaner and then a fresh install of 97.02, I've played HL2, Episode 1, and Dark Messiah without a single glitch.

Strikes me you have not got a clue coming out with that comment.

I have had Zero problems with this card which is very suprising because its on new tech with a different driver model. The only thing that bugs me is the lack of a Vista driver. Really bugs me!

I've updated the drivers to version 97.28 and its fixed my problem!!!

:D

Now well and truely chuffed!! :D
