ok so i've got an 8800gtx. everything is prettyy much hunky dory but i am having one problem - the playback of video.

I've got mpc + the latest ffdshow on here and it plays video fine, but something isnt set right and its unable to display black as black if im using the overlay mixer - it comes out as a dark grey. If i set it to vmr9 it's much better but then watching 1080p using vmr9 rapes my cpu and it starts dropping frames.

I've got everything set to standard and no levels are adjusted in either the drivers or ffdshow.

Anybody know what i can do about this?

Have you tried fiddling with the options in the Nv CP.

Video & Television > Adjust Video Colour Settings.

See if anything in there helps. I have a weird problem on my GTS (latest forceware and ffdshow) where by for some reason the Gamma keeps resetting itself to 0%. Makes movies look funky, but it's annoying have to set it again each time! Also, I've noticed with WMP11 when I watch a movie its played back fine, but if I double-click it to make it full-screen it'll be slightly out-of-sync with the sound (like the film/movie is about 1-3sec slower than where the soundtrack is).

Anyway good luck fixing it!

Do you have the PureVideo Decoder on as well?

yeah i have the same problem with gamma. i'm hoping its all just drive bugs that they will quickly iron out, because it does ruin the quality of video on my lcd somewhat.

i'm not using purevideo, no. i'll give that a go though:)

Lol someone with the same problem as me! :D Must be a bug though. With regards to PureVideo, it's only a 30-day trial unfortunately but it's worthwhile checking to see if it makes a difference. When you playback a DVD it'll show an icon in your taskbar so that you know it's running. For things like MPEG and AVI and MOV then you should just get the normal FFDshow icon. :)
