Been away from pc & gaming this year, decided to update drivers today to 182.50 WHQL, did normal uninstall then driversweeper from safemode and deleted c:\nvidia folder, rebooted & installed drivers & rebooted to find only 640x480 could be used, option for 19x12 their but wont invoke

Removed and installed 182.47, then 180's then 178's in fact even though pc been fine for past 4-5 months I now have same prob with any drivers I use

Am at a loss as to what the heck is going on :(

Any ideas
 
I had that problem with later drivers in XP when i was on Nvidia, the fix was to install SP3 (as i was still on SP1 at the time), but i didn't find that out till after id reformatted/reisntalled XP with it.

I know some people have also had it in Vista, but i don't know the fix for that one.
 
Ta but am on SP3 already, just googling the issue now but haven't a clue how to sort it, it's weird
May try reinstalling SP3 in case some files are corrupt etc
 
I had a simillar thing with a box I built recently where the motherboard had an onboard NVidia 6100, absentmindedly I let the mobo disc install all drivers, after which NOTHING I did could make the ruddy thing to anything but a tiny res in 4 bit coloour on my GTX280. Had to reinstall (well, twas a box I was building for someone else, so I wasn't gonna spend a week arguiing with it).
 
Tried no less than 9 drivers between 178's to latest 182's, even the one that had worked for past 4 months lol
Uninstall + safemode driversweeper, crap cleaner + reboot + re-install
Every time on 1st boot the desktop is 640x480, plug and play monitor as before when it worked, option to goto 19x12 but it wont do it, resorts to 640x480, now spent 5 hrs on this, never ever had probs before upgrading drivers but now cant even use older ones lol
At a total loss on what to do, any ideas appreciated
 
Ahhhh anti-malware, worse than malware itself again :D

Spybot search and destroy does the same thing, and as far as I know, doesn't shaft your system just for fun.

A bit of a longshot but only thing I'd done to pc recently was install trial version of this software, I uninstalled it and rebooted and straight into 19x12 without doing anything

Now on 182.50's, reinstalled SP3 and DX9 also

Life in the old 8800GTX yet :D

I just had the exact same problem with my ATI 4850, I found the same post then uninstalled Spyware Doctor and all was well.
What a royal PITA.
