8800GTX Driver issues

I have been looking around the net at various forums. There seem to be issues relating to the 97.02 drivers ( The ones supposedly written for the 8800 ). There are a lot of games having problems apparently.

There are those saying that it is best to use the drivers that come with the card for the moment until more stable drivers are released.

96.94 where the drivers used for most reviews, so these seem a safe bet.

96.89's are the drivers that most manufacturers seem to be shipping with.

Are any of you having issues with drivers?

Yes, see my post further down. Shadows and lighting are screwed up in HL2/CSS.

yes, works fine here (shoved all driver quality sliders up as well)

Well its a whole new system .

That's strange, coz Nvidia and Valve have recognised the problem and are working on a fix.

+ my screen flickers when im gaming :S it's really weird.

Yeah I've had an issue with HL2.

Distant objects appear washed out - almost like the view distance has been reduced and 'fog' has been applied to the distant item that is being rendered

Nothing to worry about with HL2 in my opinon, I'm sure a patch/improved driver will be along shortly that addresses the situation

Results:

6243 - 3dmarks
SM2.0 Score - 2495
HDR/SM3.0 Score - 2777
CPU Score - 1924

EDIT: Would a format fix any problems?

A format would go a long way to give you a more accurate read out.

I very much doubt the first PC performs better than the second (if set up correctly)

These people keep cropping out everywhere, no hope for humanity.

It's not a DX10 only card, Mosehn, it kicks the living hell out of DX9 games too!
