8800GTX fan + max temp

I got a new OEM version of a GTX the other day, no box of course just loads of bubble rap and the SLI and VGA-DVI connectors.

Did the usual remove drivers for old card, take the old gfx card out, put the new one in and install the drivers.

COD4 very well until the whole system froze out. i restarted and i was getting the bad graphics adapter BIOS bleeps, 1 long 3 short on a AWARD bios.

I somehow managed to get it to POST and get windows running, (no idea what caused it by this point) i checked the temps and the gtx core was reaching 135C or thereabouts - seeing this i hit the power kinda quick.

Opened the tower up on its side and turned power back on, the fan wasnt spinning up, i manage to get it to spin up after i flicked it a few times, but should i trust it? or RMA the card and get it replaced?

When you turn the PC on the fan wont spin immediately, but after about 5secs it will start to spin.

135C is way TOO hot. You really have to have good case air flow for the GTX or heat will just build up in your case making things overheat. Temps should be around 60-65C on idle and full load should be about 70-80C.

Download Rivatuner and set the fan to 100%.

If you still have problems then it might be your power supply that isn't giving the GTX enough juice or the card just might be faulty.

I have a corsair TX-620W, which i believe is plenty for the beast, i mean the fan doesnt spin at all even when windows booted, unless i moved the fan - it attempted to spin the first time but then died, i hit the fan again and it spun up. i cant say ive really tried it since

RMA tbh

All gtx's should spin up on boot, depending on what board you have, to 100% fan speed until windows.

yeah RMA...the fan must be faulty as it should always spin at 60% in windows.
