I fitted my 8800GTX a few hours ago and found that games like UT3 jerk a little, and are not as smooth as I would expect them to be :(

I am currently an Opteron 165 @ 2.7Ghz and 2GB DDR RAM (underclocked to 300Mhz), so I was thinking that my RAM is the bottleneck causing this?

The graphics card is currently overclocked to 630/1000/1500 - is that good?

What resolution are you playing at?.

If it's 1280x1024 or maybe even 1440x900 then your CPU will be bottlenecking you a little. The higher the resolution the better as the GPU will take over.

I'd run FRAPS and see what your frame rates are during playing the game, maybe also log to file to see what min, max and average are, just to see what fps your getting first

By jerking, I mean that the game plays fine for for a bit and then it looks like the frame rate has dropped for a few seconds, and then it continues fine again - this happens every now and then.

I am running games at 1680x1050, my screen's native resolution.

J.D - the Opteron is a dual core, so it is only 100Mhz slower than your X2, but it has double the cache per core so that offers a significant performance boost - it is probably even better than your X2 @ 2.8Ghz :p

Your GTX should play it fine...
my HD3870 plays it at maximum settings for hours and hours, and ive never had "jerking" of any sort, i also game at 1680x1050, and i know aswell as most people that a GTX should wipe the floor with a ATI card.
BTW apparently there are special Nvidia Drivers for UT3, have you found/installed them.
(i dont know where to find them, i just remember seeing somewhere that there are special drivers for Nvidia users in UT3)
