I posted this in general hardware with a few other questions but thought it would be better answerred here.

I've got 2 8800GTX's installed in SLI mode in my new computer. The problem is that whenever anything demanding is displayed the card temp shoots through the roof and I get an annoying beeping coming from both cards (mostly the lower one though).

I've downloaded Rivatuner and tried setting the fans to 100% but the cards are still idleing at 60 + 64 and still beep when i run games at higher resolutions.

I thought with these 2 cards that I would be able to run most games at a very high resolution with most options turned on and the only thing I would get is a FPS slowdown, not overheating/beeping issues.

Is there anything else I can do to help resolve this problem ?

What PSU are you useing? the only beeping i know of is when the power isnt enough. 60 to 64 at idle isnt so bad on the GTX. they can take some heat. whats the load temps like?

Using an Enermax Galaxy 1000W PSU. I'm not 100% sure what the load temps are but I think its in the the region of 75-80.

Because this is the first time I've setup SLI I'm going to try and disconnect the SLI bridge and see what happens then. I'm starting to wonder if I've hooked the cards up correctly now.

well the PSU is fine. what M/B are they on? and the load temps are ok also so i dout it will be a heat issue. check driver i guess and also what OS are you useing? XP or vista

My 8800gtx beeped when it booted up without the power connecters connected, but i doubt your PSU is struggling. Remember that unless your cards are WCed, they are using the air from inside your case for cooling. 8800gtx's run hot anyway, mine idled at 75C and thats in a very well vented case. with two of them and if the ventilation is poor then you are using hot air to cool a hot card. take the side off the case and point a fan at the cards, see if that makes a difference.

I don't think its temp related as with 2 running they get to 75 C. I tested with just 1 card and got no beeps even though it was running at 85C.

I'm running on a Asus Striker Extreme running under XP.

As a test I changed the where power was being drawn from my PSU (modular cables) and got a different quiter beep when it was loading tests and then the louder one at nearer the end.

Maybe the PSU can't supply enough power to run 2 of the cards properly.

I would very very much doubt that, 1000Watt enermax?
If that won't power it, then what will?

P.S That is some awesome setup

unless that PSU is faulty! It will run those two GTX cards easy!

it might even be a bios issue causeing problems in sli mode. i dout its a power issue but maybe that galaxy has a fault, be the first one ive herd of fail to supply 2 X GTX in sli. go over all the settings for sli, maybe one of the cards is faulty and dosnt like Sli.

Okay the results are in and the problem was... NONE OF THE ABOVE!!

It turns out that the computer was drawing too much power from my UPS and it was that beeping not the computer. It was hard to tell because the beep was so loud and the UPS is directly under the computer.

It seems like everything is fine now in the world of my new computer.

Now I just need to overclock it a bit more and see what else I can break.

In my own defense it did sound like it was coming from both cards. Maybe there was also a beep coming from the cards because of a lack of power but the UPS one was the loudest ?

Either way it was a stupid thing to happen :D
