Not so much wanting to, but an opportunity has come up to sell my GTX to a friends friend who is looking for one for SLI, kinda thinking it wouldn't cost me much to change as he's reluctant to buy 2nd hand eBay and knows mine is only 8 months old and still got the box & packaging

Thing is I'm on a P35 MB so Crossfire I'm avoiding so it's single card for me, GTX280 too expensive, prefer 4870 over GTX260 and unsure whether my PSU would handle 9800GX2 as am already running Q6600 @ 3.72GHz, also running XP Pro 32bit so anxious that the 4870X2 if 2Gb would hinder system memory further should I want one in 2-3 months

4870 on the face of it seems best option for ME, only spanner in the works is whether the 1Gb version is imminent and at what cost and also would I loose the interest in GTX if I wait too much longer, seems like I've a certain sale cash in hand if I can get a decent price for GTX

Happy with GTX its awesome, but taking into account my situation is it worth doing ?

Decisions decisions
Any thoughts ?
Cheers

considering the 4870 is on average 10% slower then the GTX280 and 4870 beats the 8800GTX in most games i say change to a 4870

seems like you've made up your own mind...what res do you game at? regardless the 4870 is a decent upgrade depending on what you get for your gtx.

Love the GTX esp as got decent shader o/c, when I get my DGM 24" back always run 19x12 and generally 4AA/8AF, mainly COD4 but also got HL2 to play again + the 2 exp packs as well as upcoming new Brothers In Arms title

It's possible it'll cost me £40 max ;) Which isn't too bad

Due to single card and getting a reasonable price for GTX now whilst I can, seems like an opportunity and also a new toy to play with (always a sucker for this)

The 4870 will run rings around the GTX and then some.

Don't worry about the memory 512MB is more than enough for 1920x1200.

Cracking card at a cracking price.

I went from an 8800GTX to a 4870 and did some benchmarks in Crysis, DMC4, GRID and Trackmania United. I think on average the increase across the 4 games was about 35%

It's GRID which I am particularly pleased with. I can run it at 1920x1200 4xAA and it's just super smooth compared to the 8800GTX.

I still haven't sold my GTX, but if you can manage to get a good price for it then it's a pretty decent upgrade tbh !
