any ideas anyone ?

Generally speaking its coil buzz, unprotected copper coils somewhere generating a high pitch noise because they are resonating.

Some capacitors also do this, the Nvidia branded 680i boards are renowned for example, as are Shuttles etc.

It COULD be your graphics card but it could also be more or less any components in your PC. My 680i board does it for example, its related to the amount of power needed for the current scene being rendered, its suprising just how much this can vary in seemingly similar 3D scenes in games!

Technically if you can track it down you COULD coat the component with heat resistant silicone to dampen the vibrations.. personally I have never been very good at pinpointing the high pitched sound and so just turn my speakers up.... Plus i dont wanna be shooting sticky goo all over my components ;)
