Just been playing Oblivion for an hour and the game started to stutter, exited the game and checked Asus smart doctor and it alerted me to the card over heating at 66 degrees, is this normal should I push the alert level up a little more or is there something wrong?
PS Not overclocked

That's normal temperatures to be honest, what's the rest of your specs?

Jokester

Asus P5B Deluxe
Asus 8800GTX Stock
Intel Core 2 Duo E6600 Stock
2GB OCZ PC6400 Ram

Had a look at my frame rate while playing and while the stuttering is taking place im running between 90 to 120 FPS.
This one is weird?!....
CPU is around 40 degrees
Should my GPU Fan settings be on Direct fan control or Auto?

O.k ive had another look and it only seems to be that one point in the game, Knights of the Nine with 4 zombies on screen in one go, could it be a problem with the game? Surely it cannot slow my system down on these specs, when walking round the countryside all is fine.

Can someone with a 8800GTX tell me what the expected temps are ?

My Idle temp is 72oC
Need to run some games for a bit to get the underload temp.

What are the expected idle / unload temps ?

With the fan on auto, my temps were 68c idle, and up to 89c load.
Now I set the fan to 100% when gaming, which gives me 54c idle, 75c load :).

I also removed 2 of the backing plates from my case, (for the slots below the card), and I placed a piece of curved cardboard beneath the card, so it would redirect the hot air out through the slots.

Try putting your hand under the card when it's running hot, and you'll see just how much hot air is blown into your case from those 5 long slits in the fan cover. Some guy at Xtreme Systems tried taping over those slits, to force all the hot air out the grill at the back, but that caused the card temps to rise even more, so those slits are needed.

My idle is 52c in a coolermaster stacker 830.

All those temps are normal.

Load up to about 90c is fine

Idle up to about 70c is fine

Basically these cards can take a lot of heat and are designed to, nothing to worry about.

You will find if you manually adjust the fan you will be able to reduce your load temps by a good 10c, even at full load the card doesn't put them on anywhere near 100%, I just set mine to 80% and its barely audible and that reduced me load temps by 7c and me idle by about 10c

after 1 hour 55 deg C at idle and 62Deg C after oblivion for 3 hours with a BFG wet one coupled to a zalman 1 +

BTW that is also cooling the core duo extreme

Stick a £5 slot fan in next to it. The air coming out gets really hot

Jesus what a tidy setup inside how u manage that, mine looks like a 5yr old has been let loose wires everywhere.
