I am afraid I have a little problem...

I was recently remoding my whole case... so I thought what better than applying some fresh as5 in my GTX.

so I opened it.. removed all the stock padding..
applied some as5 on the core and some plain white paste on mems and voltage regulators.

unfortunately... the stock heatsink is not making any contact with the memories.. I opened it again and applied a lot of paste just so it can have some contact.

I am afraid though that it is still not working well.
the momment the mem temp hits 70*C all games crash.
has anyone else experienced the same...?

any recomendations for alternative air cooling...?

tnx for your help

You should never apply a lot of paste, it can usually make things worse. The stock cooler is not that bad. I never had to remove the cooler at all when i had mines, i just used rivatuner to to speed up the fan. Try cleaning and applying the paste. You shouldn't of removed the pads, if you still have them then put them back on.

no I dont have them.... that's the problem...

I though paste would be better than pads... unfortunately I was wrong...
even with fan at 100% I cant game more than 5-10minutes :(

I am considering the thermalright HR-03PLUS
and Arctic Cooling Accelero Xtreme

anyone using them???
opinions?

Arctic Cooling Accelero Xtreme is a great cooler and very easy to fit, my 8800gtx even overclocked never went over 59 in any game even after hours. I am sure the other cooler is also very good but I have never used it so can't comment.

to be honest I was leaning towards that as well..
does it make good contact with the mems?
and do they include any thermal paste?

something else... does any of you know what kind of warranty does XFX give...?
is it 3years?

AFAIK, the XFX warranty is a lifetime one.

Both the coolers you mentioned are excellent so either would be fine but I'm not sure if they come with any thermal paste/pads, might want to check that before you buy.

If they dont, you can buy the thermal pads specifically for 8800GTX's from a few sites in the UK

The Accelero Extreme comes pre-applied with thermal paste and comes with thermal pads for memory chips and heatsinks for the voltage regulators. It's a brilliant cooler although it does make your GTX abit fatter (something to note if you SLI). Mine rarely go over 60c at load.
